Default Bummed out

Welp, we've gotta figure something else out to do around here now.

The wife and I (remember we got married on Friday, Oct 13th last year) just bought a house. The last 5 years we created a following at ye 'ol rental with the whole neighborhood. We moved into the hosue last week. Very small neighborhood, 10 houses total. In fact no one lives across the street. thwere's some grass, a fence, then a hill basically covering up a neighborhood of multi-million dollar houses.

So talking to the prwevious homeowners at closing:
"So do the people in your neighborhood like Halloween?"
"Oh wow. Well, we've lived there 10 years, and never once has a trick-or-treator."

WHAT??? NONE?? NOT ONCE??? OMG OMG OMG!!

I've been pretty much bummed out for the past two weeks.
"Why even put anything out? Who's going to see it?"
The rental was on a major thuroughfare through town, it got tons of exposure!
This road, the only reason people drive down it is because they live there, and that sonly my street, THERE'S 6 HOUSES ON THIS STREET!!

Of all the houses we looked at, I always made mention "Will this bee good for halloween and Christmas Exposure?" This one, nope never did...

Yikes!

Too bad that the neighborhood is like that, but it doesn't have to stay that way - decorate the way you want to and invite the neighbors over for a Halloween Party or just friends and family if you're not a big "howdy, neighbor" kind of person.

It may take a few years, but I bet if you set your stuff up, you'll get ToTs.

Remember, if you build it, they will come...

lots of luck and congrats on the new house!

If you build it, they will come, just make it worthy....utilize telephone poles and mailboxes, put some halloween music in your car cd player, get in the mood and deliver some flyers....

I was in the same situation before we moved.

I got 3 ToT the first year, and 3 the 5th year before we moved out. (And plenty of teenagers who learned to never mess with my pumpkins...but that's another story.)

I settled myself into throwing a party each year, and got involved with a commercial haunt.

But, that was an ancient neighborhood. All great grandparents with few grandkids visiting. Sounds like yours might be under developement, so it'll improve.

if you like halloween just decorate for yourselves first .....and if you have a neat display believe me word to mouth some people might end up at your house on halloween ....or just to drive and see your decorations.....you might be suprised ....

when we moved here 5- 6 years ago the neibourghs in front said no trick or treaters came here ( we are in a small township and us are out of the town period) so that first year i only had 2 hay bails on the porch , a life size witch and crows and pumpkins , halloween day we did errrans and got home around supper time , well cars wore stoping with kids on their way to town , i had no candy to give so gave large chocolate bars lol....

so hey after that the heck with it ,we just started doing what we want , and word to mouth people just stoped and came to see the display , we talked about it at my daugthers daycare , we now get 500 and more kids and people on halloween night and weekend before , we made 4 news paper last year , won a tv show contest, ......so even if i wouldnt get people coming by i would still go all out for myself because i simply enjoy it .....my 4 year old daugther enjoys it , everynight in october when our display is up after dinner we walk the ground and just enjoy our display....

I agree that you should throw a party if you want to decorate and want people to actually see your set up. I never have trick or treaters and I live in a fairly large complex! I keep one bag of candy, just in case, but I've never had to use it. I still decorate at home but all of the real fun happens when I get to decorate the gym for our big annual party!

To repeat what others have suggested: DECORATE, put up flyers close to halloween so TOTs know where to go, then make it worth their while!

I have to agree too. Perhaps you can turn the neighborhood around. I know that the first year in our new house, we had maybe 50-100 ToTers. The next year, it doubled easily. We're expecting a huge crowed this year. Word does get around.
