I am lost...what do you mean by down load of Halloween specials?
And torrent downloads?"I never drink....wine. Well maybe just this once!"

Usually illegal downloads, JackReaper. Torrents are short for bittorrents, which were developed when dial up was the norm so people could download huge movies, tv shows and music, mostly illegally. It's downloaded in bits from the people participating. It's also known as peer to peer file sharing. Limewire is a popular one.
While not always illegal, it usually is.

The only place I could even begin to think of is YouTube

If by 'Halloween specials' he means shows like Charlie Brown's Great Pumpkin, then yes. It's illegal.

I can record it on my (digital) TV for free. Legal.
I can record a song off the (digital) radio for free. Legal.
But to share a file that was free and legal is illegal. HMMM.
This same hubbub was felt with the dawn of cassette tapes and VHS.
There is a reason these cases fall apart under analysis in court.
I worked for a media company that designed DRM for music labels. (and now video) They are the greediest, dirtiest companies with the exception of the law firms they hire.

Seven students and a mother (who didn't have a clue) have recently been hauled up on charges of illegally downloading music from Limewire here in Maine. The words greediest, dirtiest companies (and their lawyers) are nicer terms than I would use, Wilbret.

Those cases are stupid, and will be written in the history books as such.
I can connect to two of my neighbors' wireless connections. I can connect at places all over town. There really is no way of knowing who downloaded what anymore.
