Default My project...

Just a little history... I am an avid fall/halloween lover, but I have never really had a haunt per-say. I have had Pumpkins, Mums, Scarecrows, Haybales, and Lights out before but nothing really spooky...

This year I am stepping it up a little with a small graveyard. I have been working on the tombstones and would love the input of the seasoned veterans of the board.

I started with thick foam insulation board from a home improvement store then I cut it to shape. I then primered it with gray. I then sprayed a stone faced' on it. I then drilled garden stakes into the bottom of it for later mounting in the yard.

Here is a picture of the three stones that I have done so far

I think this one turned out really well. The edges actually look like old stone.

I have looked around on a few sites but still dont know what Epitaphs" I am going to put on them, if any... I think black paint would really stick out and might make em look cheesy.

The ultimate plan is to have these stones lit up orange and purple next to our porch. I am going to have a skeleton underneath them partially covered in leaves. When Tots approach I am going to turn on my speaker from behind the Stones making a moaning sound and then somehow make the skelton start moving... Should be great! I got some things to work out though

Great start so far, love the shapes. I'd definitely look into aging them with some water+paint mixture. Even adding some moss to them would look terrific. With the epitaphs, I'd carve them, then paint them black and spray the stone-paint over them very lightly.

Keep us posted!

Whoops...another fellow haunter is born! Once you carve your first tombstones, you have sold your soul (and budget) to home haunting!

Be warned, it's very addictive.

The close up of the cross looks great!

Check out www.goblinville.com for epitaphs and funny names for tombstones, I got a lot of mine off of there. I would carve the letters out also, I use a dremel tool with a router attachment and a high speed cutting bit. I write the letters on with a marker then carve away. The router attachment is about $30 and well worth it, I would still be carving if I used an exacto knife or whatever. If you already have a dremel tool, that is.
