I'm hoping someone knows what I'm talking about and can help me! A couple of years ago I remember reading on a halloween website that the home owner handed out a "certificate of bravery" to each TOT that walked through the home haunt (and they included a sample of the certificate on the website). Then, as a little treat/joke, he gave "certificates of common sense" or something like that to TOT's that were too scared to go through the haunt. I want to do something like that this year, but I can't find that website or sample certificate any where. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Not sure of the website sample, but it is really a cool idea and something you could whip up on your own. Use a spooky font and print it our on orange paper.
Gives me an idea for this year!

Lady,
I know exactly what you are talking about. Where I have seen the certificate is on a site that describes the "Blackwood" crypt or mausoleum yard haunt. It is a really cool haunt. The site has the certificates you are talking about.
I think if you just google Blackwood crypt you will find the site quickly.

Yeah, that was our home haunt, the "Carnival of Souls." The certificates of "Bravery" and "Wisdom" go over really well, because even the kids who are too scared to go in come away with something.
It's also a subtle hint to parents who are trying to force their crying kids into a place they don't want to go. You have a cast member ask kids if they want to go in, and if they don't, give them an official recognition of that fact, and have a spiel that makes it clear that we don't want kids to go in if they don't want to.
One thing that has been really successful for us is to provide a range of age-appropriate activities for kids. I like the scary, horrific haunted houses as much as the next guy, but they're not really an option for a lot of families (especially in our little subdivision which has lots of really young kids), so by providing things for the younger set, you can build a following who ends up being very loyal and appreciative. We've seen large gains in visitor numbers every year as a result, I think.
When you come up with what you're going to do, post it - I'd love to see what you come up with. Feel free to cannibalize the design of our certificates however much you like.

Thank you all so much. I knew I could count on you to help me find the info. I totally agree about not forcing the little ones to go through and giving them something for just stopping by. I love the idea and I can't wait to start working on the certificates. I'll definitely share what I come up with. Thank you again!
