We've never had a problem in the neighborhood.
Still, I typically only ever put things out the 30th at the earliest.
Saturday, my son went out to ride his bike. And...left the garage open after getting his bike out.
Just so happens, Saturday morning, I was also working to update my countdown sign a bit before putting it out, and had all the number plaques laid out on the garage floor, getting a couple coats of black paint.
About 45 min after my son had left the garage open, I headed out to flip the plaques over and paint the other side, and discovered little foot prints all over them. I assumed this to be my son's shoes walking all over things, and resigned to get after him when he got home.
When he got home and told me it wasn't him, and a quick check of his shoes confirmed that without question, I took a close look at the garage.
1 black light, 3 skulls, and 1 of the molds I'm using to make my skulls are gone. Couple other skulls had been moved, 1 had been broken and set back up to hide the break. (I'm in the process of making over 100 skulls, so they are piled all over, hence how I wouldn't notice immediately)
Kinda just knocks the wind right out of the sails. Didn't get nearly as much done over the weekend as a result, since I just couldn't muster the ambition after that.

hey man, I wish that I could say I know how you feel, but I am glad that I can't, I do feel bad for you and hope that your get up and go hasn't got up and went. we have had our porps in our yard since mid May and nothing has gone missing. but that is the area that I live in, the kids and parents for miles look forward to my haunt and are really good about helping to protect it. never had any vandelisim either and we set up about a week before hand.
to me it just seems that all the bad things happen to haunters south of the boarder. Up here in Canada, I haven't heard of any major problems.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I hope nothing of more of yours gets taken. Please keep up the good work, and try not to let it damper this halloween season if you can. As hard as that is....

Yep, been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
All you can do is pull yourself up by your boot straps, forge ahead ... and hate people. Works for me! lol!"Scare me once, shame on you. Scare me twice ... you'd better run like hell."

You have my sympathy. I have been collecting and creating Halloween decs for years, and it would be a pathetic bummer if someone either stole or vandalized them. I put the smaller decorations up in early October, things that I could live without or could easily replace, but the more elaborate and expensive things don't go out until Halloween. One reason is because I live in Florida, and can't put things on the grass until the "lawn dude" makes his weekly visit. The second reason is between potential thunder storms and hurricanes, the decorations could end up drenched and in the next neighborhood. On Halloween night, I pull out the big stuff, including the strobes, the fogger, and the sound system, and then I dress up and wander around the yard most of the evening, to add to the creepiness and keep an eye on things as well.
