I feel the same way about autumn. I love the fresh cool air and love to hear the sound of leaves crunching under my feet when I go on my walks. Not only is it the most beautiful time of the year, but I love the smells of fall, the smell of the leaves, the crackling fires, pumpkin bars baking in the oven, the smell of straw on hayrack ride, they all bring back memories of my youth. I have more memories of autumn and halloween then happy memories of christmas. It's such a letdown when Halloween is over and all the leaves are completely off the trees. It is never long enough.

yeah I feel the same way. My mom every year would take us to get a pumpkin and we'd always pick out the biggest one. When I lived in Maryland, I remember walking out and smelling this smell of leaves burning. I love it how it's not too cold and not too warm. I wish fall would go on all year around. Halloween when I was a kid was a blast. Everyone would be out trick or treating and we'd be out till late. I love seeing jack-o-lanterns on everyones porches. There's so many things I love about fall.

Is Sweden like the US in celebrating or more like Uk where they do not recognise it?

Where abouts in the UK where you? Would like to stick up for the UK a little bit here lol, it's always been recognized as far as i've known since i was a kid.

I lived in the US and the UK too and although the UK doesn't go all out like the US it is becoming much more Americanized these days and it definately IS a celebrated holiday. Maybe less so in certain areas just like the US.

It's nice to read what this time of year means to everybody. We anounce our Halloween party every year in August to make sure everyone gets it on their calendar, and then send actual invitations out a litttle more than one month early (usually the first official day of fall). Every year this results in a newbie making a comment about how much we must love Halloween. And it is true, Halloween has become "the" holiday for my wife and I, and I think a large part of that is that it represents a focal point for our favorite season... fall. I have always lived where summers are scorching hot, and while our falls are never cold, they are definately a reprieve from the heat. I guess it has always kind of represented THE dramatic change in the year, even more so than mild winter to spring or hot spring to summer. So I've always enjoyed this time of year, but the older I get, the more nostalgia takes hold of me and the stronger my passion for fall, especially Halloween, seems to grow. It reminds me of TOTing as a kid, and seeing hundreds (literallay) of other kids doing the same, of the spooky haunts on our block, of the fun of a good-hearted fright, of the imagination employed in jack-o-lanterns and costumes, and the sense of wonder it filled me with. I'm not longing for the past to return, but rather am reminded every fall to take time to stop and enjoy life, especially the simple things. I really feel a sense of rejuvination each October as we put our decorations out and feel that sense of wonder, and I can't wait to see the looks on our party guests faces as they arrive for our party and stare wide-eyed at decorations they've come to expect each year and search for the new things tucked here and there.
