So I've decided to go ahead and try my first garage haunt this year. I've been playing with the floor plan for a few days and I've finally got one I think will work. I have the first part of the haunt broken into a maze-like plan. The only problem I have is that the last hallway leading to the exit is just a long hallway about 15 feet long and 4 feet wide. I was thinking of making it a spider hallway - glueing some spiders to the wall and putting a strobe light in there with some strings hanging down to make it feel like cobwebs. I'm just not sure how this will look. Do you have any other suggestions for how to decorate a long hallway

    Thanks

I say nix the strobe light. a spider web filled hallway is always creepier when its dark, or dim lit.

I have seen some great spider hallways by people on this site. I think you are on the right track. If you can find some creepy crawly sounds to play...

A strobe might not be a bad idea if you can work it to make the spiders on webs to look like they are moving.

I have a hallway of doom that is really just meant to be mass confusion. It is completely dark, then comes to life via motion detectors. Strobes flash with LOUD music, colored lights flash in sync with the music using a lightning fx controller, and then black lights kick on to show hidden messages written on a wall, including a "doorway" at the end of the hall.

The door is painted on scrim, and when the people, get close, the light changes and you can see a hanging skeleton. It's pretty cheesy, but people like it. The real door is revealed to the right.

There is a low lying fogger pumping fog into the hallway, too... but I may scratch it because it comes into the house every time people come in.

Like what wilbret suggested about the false exit, could you put a sort of maze in the center that gets people turned around, and they have to choose between 2 doorways. One is the exit, and the other sends them back to the middle/end before the maze and they have to try again. This may get complicated if you have a lot of foot traffic though....

That just sounds plain cool! Ever thought of throwing in randomly placed bursts of compressed air? we did that at a trail i worked years ago and it really freaks em out(go figure). Gotta be careful not to hit em in the face though.

Do you have a theme? You could always make it a spooky hallway with changing portraits, or portraits where the eyes follow you.

I was thinking along the same lines as JohnnyL. We have a long hallway in ours where we cover both sides/walls with the stone wall scene setters, and we have haunted portraits hainging on both sides all the way down. We bought a few of the stick on torch lights from OT which give a dim flickering flame effect and then we hang creepy cloth and webs across the top to close it in a little more and make the ceiling feel low.

I just saw something that would be perfect!

It was generally dark at both ends of the hall and both walls of the hall were covered in what looked like some sort of heavy black fabric.

What it really was, was that same material that they make inflatables out of. Just enough on each wall so that when you turn on the compressor and fill both sides with air, they touch in the middle.

You let the people get about a quarter of the way in, then turn it on, masking the compressor noise with screams or other sound effects. It holds you right in place, and you can't even tell which way is up. You CAN't fall down, so no one would get hurt, and you can force your way through, but it only stays on for a moment or two, then you shut it off and release the victims.

Again, it deflates slowly, so people don't fall down, and you could pad the floor as well just in case.

I went through this and it was a fantastic effect! I highly recomment it if you can come up with the air and the material.
