Hi!
I was wondering when it's "too early" to decorate.
Last year we decorated 6 weeks before halloween, BUT this year we are so excited for halloween that we almost decorated YESTERDAY (AUGUST 26). Can you believe it... thats a little crazy isn't it... I wanted to start putting stuff out but people are going to think we are crazy in our neighborhood!! I mean thats 9 weeks early...
So what does everyone think is too early ... and when is a good time....
last year when we decorated 6 weeks before halloween it seemed like a good time to do it cuz when we did it everyone else followed suit about a week later...
When does everyone else decorate in here??
Help me out!
Thanks!

We started weeks ago, but we need to to got everything done in time. We have finished building the main walls in our 6-room haunted garage and expect to finish the rest of it this week. Next weekend we start building The El Patron (a 57' x 18' pirate ship facade). Check out http://www.starkmadness.com/photos

I start putting little things up here and there starting mid september and then I hit it hard oct 1 with all the big yard stuff.
Last year was my first year in our house, I had just moved and couldent take alot of my props with me, so I built them and put them out one at a time, I had a TON of comments on how much fun it was for everyone to see what I was going to put up next, it went on all month, with the last of the stuff going up the night before halloween..
I might do the same thing this year, one prop at a time
but just a FYI, I pulled out some of my interior stuff three weeks ago, wife is fit to be tied.

I pulled all my stuff out on Friday and did a little light decorating in the basement. Just because I need to sort out what I need to buy for my party. I won't be decorating outside until the week before Halloween it's just too risky theft wise.

Our HOA has a "law" against any holiday decorations going up more than 30 days prior to a date. We sneak up a countdown sign about 6 weeks out (still waiting for someone to complain) and start with a graveyard fence the weekend of the 1st. Then it all trickles out. The walk through doesn't go up really until the week before...just to keep rotten kids from doing damage. Anything of REAL value goes out the nights there are walk thru's and comes in that night as well :-(

I generally start on the inside around the middle of September. I find that holds me out until the beginning of October and then I do the outside.
No word of a lie, I will drive by a house with Halloween decortions on Halloween, then the very next day they will be all gone and there will be a Christmas tree sitting in the window! So if you want to start shortly, then that's your choice, but just be leary of vandels is my concern."And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door..."

yeah, don't feel too bad. You're amongst people who would leave our decorations up year round if we weren't so conscious of what our friends/neighbors might think. haha.
My internal decor (first Halloween without a yard to decorate...ugh) went up about a week and a half ago...and I've been sitting here trying to figure out how to make the best of the holiday, lack of a front yard, etc. But every night at 6pm on the dot, my two jack-o-lanterns light up and my lemax spooky town display turns on.
So all in all, not too bad, but I definitely miss having a yard/house to decorate.

So true Dminor, so true!
Usually we start with general fall decor (scarecrow, pumpkins) early Sept., then later Sept./Oct. is open season!

Man, I'll never understand how they get away with dictating to private owners what they can & can't do with their land (even if you do trade it for the "privilege" of living in that community.)Haunt to Live ... Live to Haunt

It's kinda a difficult situation in my house because I live with and take care of my parents, and they always make these rules I cannot up anything up 'till Oct 1st.

But I have been s l o w l y putting simple, little things up all around the house since July.
A skeleton candle holder here. My witches potion bottles there.
Apparently the only who seems to really notice is my girlfriend who thinks its funny.
