We've all been though it, havent we?
Don't we all have an "aquaintance" at work, a neighbor, or a "friend" that throws their halloween party on the same night as ours?
Then, you're talking to your buddies, and they start telling you "Well, I might swing by after I go to John's party, etc., etc."
Then, in the back of our Halloween-loving minds, we start thinking..."uh-oh, I wonder if John's decorations are going to be better than ours?" Or-
"They wont swing by after they go to John's party! They'll all be too wasted!" Or-
"Darn it, everyone is going to John's house!"
How have Halloween-competing parties worked for some of you? Any good stories about your "arch rival" that tries to pull your guests away and steal your thunder?![]()

Unfortunately I have no competition which actually kind of stinks...many of my friends like Halloween, but not on this level...lol...and they don't decorate anyhow.

I don't have any competition either....I'd actually like to hand over the party torch and focus more on the TOT's on 10/31.
Last year we had some guests walk into our (brand new) neighbors house thinking there place was ours. (which is absurd..they didn't have any decorations).
After our guests get to our house they tell us about this lame party they walked in on. A couple of other neighbors proceed to go down to that other party and invite everyone to our place. I had no idea this had happened. All of the sudden I look around wondering where the hell 20+ people that I didn't know had came from.
hmmm.....I wonder if they will be having a party this year?

I live in the Bible Belt. Competition? No. Possibility of getting burned at the stake? Every year. lol!

"Envy", huh?
Funny, but in all the years I've done this, I've never picked up any "Envy Vibes" until just last year. I put up a new static prop, a "Face Plant Witch", a week before Hallowe'en. It's a dummy on a broomstick that looks like a Witch flew into a Utility Pole. A good laugh, about 20' up in the air. Everybody could see it A neighbor that I happen to deal with sometimes at work saw it and gave me a "Defects List" of things he felt were inaccurate of inappropriate about the prop. I'm serious, stuff like "the arms and legs are too skinny, the hands (sculpted from hi-density styrofoam, I was really proud of those) are too masculine looking, the shoes are not what you'd expect a Witch to wear", and so on. Ridiculous, really, gimme a break. I mentioned that to my partner that evening, and she said, "Aww, he's just jealous."Wolfman

Wolfman:
I would have to agree. Your co-worker was jealous.
That is just insane!
Occasionally I'll have a TOT or someone at the party pick out a prop and say "that isnt scary or that doesnt look real," etc.
But they've never brought it to my attention in writing! LOL!

It never ceases to amaze me how rude some people can be.

Our competition is College Football, which is why our party is on Friday night. We lose people every year because they are going to an away game...
Plus, we do have the party hoppers that show up here first and leave early to do a bar crawl.
Competition isn't really what I worry about, I mostly get ticked about people that say they are coming and don't, without any notice. It's not like people throwing parties buy stuff according to the expected guest count or anything.

Wilbret:
College football and High School football has interfered with my parties in the past, too. I especially remember one year that a game was on and we [WVU]lost to Miami due to a blocked punt in the final seconds! Talk about a party killer! I think everyone left after that!
Our stadium is 3 hours away, so I generally dont lose too many if there's a home game. However, this year, I have managed to schedule my shindig on the WVU-vs-Rutgers night [an away game]....probably one of the most important games of the season. I hope its not a repeat of that dang Miami year!
I also get the people that leave early for the bar hopping experience.

I'm actually experiencing that this year. I have some really cool decorations, and spend a long time decorating for all of October. I just had a baby so I couldn't have a party last year (to pregnant). So I've told my friends that I was having one again this year. Then my other halloween loving friend said she wanted to have the halloween party this year (because her house is bigger) but she wanted to use all of my halloween decorations. I said that was fine if she came to my house before the party and help me take everything down and take it to her house and set it up again. She just wants all the glory, because she doesn't have much stuff. I'm not sure what to do here. Any suggestions?
