saw that one last year. very cool yes but not 9000 dollars cool thats for sure. if you have the know how my guess is you can build it for less then 1000 easy. the amount you pay for props comes from the work and skills that went into developing the prop not so much the prop it self. if it is not in masss production expect to pay top dollar

I agree that the larger animatronic props seem pretty ridiculosly priced; one thing to realize is that they aren't making thousands to sell to the general public at a thousand Walmarts or Targets. They are made in smaller yields by smaller companies for a smaller demographic. Since they aren't dealing in volume, the cost of building the item is going to be reflected in the price a lot more directly.
That said, I do think the market and the manufacturing prowess of our Halloween 'hobby' have grown by leaps and bounds in the last decade, and at this point I find the pricing of many of the large moving (I will not call all of them 'animatronic') props to be unreasonable.
I can build what I need, for the most part, and spend a fraction of those prices doing it. And if I can't build it for myself this year, oh well. Life's not about instant gratification. And besides, the theme of most of those items doesn't fit my display's themes. I don't have any thematic or personal reason to show a guy in a gas chamber getting gassed.
