For our annual haunted hayride, I was wondering if we could use mirrors to hide behind in areas where there is no good cover. I saw some at Target for about $10 that were 5 feet tall and probably shoulder width. Before I spend the money I was wondering if any of you had ever tried this and, if so, with what kind of success. Thanks

note to self: swing by target on the way home...
In the right setting, mirrors are very effective. Invisible even. But I don't know about using them as cover. Typically they are usefull for effects: Head on a table, body on a pole, that kind of thing.

To be truthfull Im not sure about mirriors. I guess it's just one of those things you have to try out. Good luck and if you do it you should post photos so I can better undertand what your talking about.

Halloweenking,
On our hayrides there are spots along the route where there is no good place to hide, and there are always patrons who do nothing but try and "spot the spooks" for the other riders. I was thinking that if you had a full size mirror, angled slightly downward, that you could hide just a few feet away from the wagon and no one would be able to see you. That's my plan, anyway, I guess I'll have to experiment out in the yard with one before I go crazy buying mirrors!

Well.
You need to hide all the edges of the mirror. And, assuming the hayride is looking down towards this mirror, it would be hard to angle it down and still hid someone behind it.
Perhaps something more akin to this real rough sketch and model will be helpfull. I never made the full thing as I could never find the mirrors.

Thanks for all the advice. I was thinking I'd have to remove the frames on the mirrors for this to work. Our hayrides are the 13th & 20th of October. Hopefully we won't have a repeat of last year when snow/rain forced to cancel one night.

I encourage you to use deception.
Lots of dummies that look like people. Places to hide that aren't used for hiding, like stacks of straw bales or something. Draw their attention via misdirection and get them from somewhere else.
If you saturate an area with light, it can make eyes hard to adjust for the next darker area, which makes it easier to get a scare.
I set up a dummy in my graveyard that the kids see for days. The night of TOT, I replace the dummy with myself (the other dummy, as my wife would claim).
