Living in Florida we have our fair share of spanish moss. I was wondering if it could used for halloween? Like draping it over a bucky skeleton pinned to a tree with a sword. If I do use it does it needed to cleaned in some way? And can it airbrushed to a green color?![]()

I know there are little red bugs living in Spanish moss because I got some on my arm once. They are very tiny and make you itch like crazy. At the very least, I'd spray it with bug spray before using it. Don't know if it can be painted but that may kill the bugs too.

Try soaking some in a bleach/water solution for a while, then letting it dry in the sun. Usually kills the bugs. I use it over tombstones , chandeliers and lots of things. If it's going to be near a food table, I break down and buy the clean stuff in a bag.

Clean it first, just because.
I use it on (or rather in) my buckys, TSs, and fence.

Hey Hermit. Spanish Moss??? Yes you can!! Every year I order what I can on ebay. We have never had issues with bugs or what not and we use it all over our haunt. One suggestion is that if you store it.. or purchase it. Make sure its totaly dried out. We had one box get moldy and ended up throwing it away.
Im not going crazy.. its just a nice place to visit.
