I'm hearing nightmarish stories about the I-5 construction project, and how the DOT is encouraging people to take vacations, work from home, etc... to avoid it.
I lived across the street from my office when I lived there, because traffic was bad THEN. I can't fathom it being much worse. I would just not show up for work, I think...if my boss wouldn't give me slack.
I am really missing Seattle, though. The more time passes, the more I wish I was there. Any hope of the job market picking back up?

Easy...I haunt (err, work) from home.
It's going to be a mess, not that traffic in our area is not already a mess. Hopefully, it will push people in single-occupant vehicles to discover mass transit.
I heard that the DOT has already switched the "Welcome to Seattle" sign on I-5 to "Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here".

This AM was the first major commute day (8/13) and the helicopters were saying the traffic was a breeze (as of 7am). They've set up a ton of extra infrastructure (tow trucks, adjusted light times on the alternate routes, etc.). Many companies have been in the news about allowing their employes flexible schedules. I work in Redmond and live clear out on the east side so I ain't got no trouble...
What do you do? Boeing is doing really well with their contracts though the planes will be built in (Everett?), Microsoft is adding roughly 8% to their headcount, Starbucks is still growing a bit... The housing market is slowing a little, much like everywhere else, which is good and bad.
LOVED the "Welcome Sign" idea.Wait... Did you hear that?

I worked for RealNetworks as a Product Manager. They bought our little company from Atlanta for 276MM and moved us. (A few people got rich, we just got by) We had a 2 year guaranteed deal, and they let most of us go after 2 years. I would have stayed, but everyone was laying off then. Boeing laid of 30k, etc.. This was August 2001. I left later that year.
I can't tell you how much I miss it, and I am back where I grew up.
