I will put in a good word for Michaels. I am in both of my local stores several days a week and I have found most of the sales associates to be pretty helpful. Even if they dont know how to answer my questions they have always tried to find someone who could help. In both stores I have only run into one crabby clerk.
I know Michaels prices are somewhat higher but I appreciate the 40% coupons and that they take competitor coupons.
So all in all, I like Michaels![]()

Hi Jon,
Not sure about this, but could it be that your Michaels is not putting out as much as most? Maybe they just decided to downsize that particular location and you could go to another one and they would be getting more stuff in.
Just trying to give you some hope

My problem with Michaels is they tend to have one register open when there are 14 people in line, and all the employees are God knows where when you are looking for one. That stinks when typical Michaels cutomers have tons of items that take a while to check out (sheets of paper, trinkets, knick knacks).
AC Moore seems to be easier to check out and easier to find a person.
My wife is a scrapbook and craft-aholic, so we go to both stores pretty frequently.
I've heard some former Michaels employees talk about how they were forced to make crafts for display, among other complaints. No offense to our resident Michaels employees.

Michael's (like every other retailer) tends to run with a very lean staff. That's how they keep costs down and return value to their shareholders. Notice I said shareholders not customers. This a corporate issue and not the fault of your local stores. Although the members of this forum are probably very knowledgeable about their supplies, often times customers will just hand you a list and expect you to fill it, and want you dream up ideas for their kids projects, and won't buy the stuff you recommend because they just need "a drop of glue not a whole tube" or only '"3 or 4 sequins, don't you have a smaller package"
If you're asking for some unusual item, it helps if you know the name of it, so they don't have to play 20 questions.
As far a "basic foam glue" My store has a 10' section of nothing but glues and other adhesives for crafting. I need more info to answer your question, as there are many kinds of foam, and one glue will not work for all.
They ask for my recommendations and then refuse the product I recommend because they want something "cheaper". Well you get what you pay for. I try to offer the item that will give the best result. And I have learned to ask "will you want to keep this forever, or is it just a kids project?"
So I'm just sayin...lighten up, it's not easy being in the service industy. If you don't know what you want, how can I?No one can make you do anything you don't want to do, right?

Personally, all I have found for Michaels employees is that sometimes they are a bit in the dark about things, but just as much, there are employees that are actually 100% helpful and actually answer my question, even if it is just a yes or a no.
Personally, I adore Michaels. I shop there quite frequently, as does my mother (of which is now and has been a scrap-a-holic.)
So I have no problem with Michaels persay, but when i have a problem no one can answer, i ask for the manager and all is fixed. xD
