Attention to detail is what really thrills me. Haunters who take the time to arrange a few well-chosen props with appropriate lighting, add crows and some moss to a graveyard, hide structural supports, include neighborhood or topical references on a tombstone or a zombie's costume. Even inflatables can be done well if the location is carefully chosen - a stack of jack-o-lanterns that suddenly comes into view when you round a corner, a smiling ghost on a porch roof.

Traditional Halloween for me.
Well,if you call an "Old West" theme traditional...
The kids and the parents walking together collecting treats.
It has turned into a friendly and social evening.
My yard isnt large ,but everyone looks forward to seeing it on Halloween.
Nothing gory,just a bit spooky.Wyatt Furr

I never know the meaning of the word 'gothic' anymore; an ancient Germanic tribe? an 18th century literary style? teenagers dressed in black with their hair hanging in their eyes? I don't know...
I know I don't like gore and I only did cutesy when my kids were little.
I LOVE graveyards, ghosts, witches, vampires... I'll call my style 'classic'.Dear Sweet Leota, Beloved By All. In Regions Beyond Now But Having a Ball...

When I think of gothic I think of dark castles like dracula would have lived in. Black, dark red, rod iron, elegant, foggy...

I love spooky with just a touch of gore (just a hand or leg under a lawnmower and such very little) but intense creepyness. just the anticipation of the scare is sometimes enough (even for adults). right lighting, right sounds and music can really send shivers up your spine.oooo what fun!
We became haunters by the way we were haunted as children. http://s229.photobucket.com/albums/e...henight_album/

Not sure if "traditional" is a style but I guess that's what we lean towards. The creepy cemetery, with fog, low lights and a good sound track. We also do a walk through that incorporates a castle wall, skeletons, coffin, witch scene, vampires, grim reaper, etc.. We try to put a lot of focus on small details that some folks miss in their haste, but those who see them really appreciate it. Gotta have a bunch of jack o lanterns too.

I'm with Halloweiner - I like an old-time Halloween feel. Universal monster movies, the AIP Poe flicks with Vincent Price, old Halloween novelty records from the 50's and 60's, early electronic music like Mort Garson, that sorta thing. Is it possible to feel nostalgia for a time 20 years before one was born?

Dinsaur, I know that I sure do. I long to experience a Halloween like the ones I see in older movies. Being born in 1985, I never really got to experience the type of Halloween that makes me happy.
