I am haunting the Lodge in my neighborhood. The community has a rustic Lodge Style theme. Last year I had a talking Boris saying a short story about how the construction around the lake (right behind the Lodge) has disturbed the spirits that were resting here at the lake.
This year I want to add a second Boris and have them both warn the patrons before they go in that the spirits are more angry than before. I want to post a story in our community forum to get a little excitement going before hand.
I was thinking of the story consisting of early settlers that lived near the lake. Maybe one of them snapped and massacred the rest of the village.
Would any of you care to take a stab at helping me put a story together?

The lake (if it has a name) was used for many dark rituals, the shores turned red with the blood of the Innocent.
Flames filled the night sky, shadowy figures danced in the light, and the water boiled.
The.......(insert name) with no conscience, no feeling, and no soul sacrificed many villagers in their quest to attain immortality.

After many years of despair the villagers found couarge, found strenght and fought back.
They destroyed the ......, and rejoiced in the new found freedom.
until....
With the next full October moon the evil..... returned to
exact their revenge.
With a darkness so deep, so brutal, so cold it could not be conquered.
Now.....
The forces of darkness return to these hallowed shores once a year to collect a soul to feed their hunger.
For on these grounds lay the ashes of bones and blood soaked sand.
Run, run now, children while you still can.
Thats all I got for now.Last edited by noahbody; 07-14-2007 at 08:54 AM.

Great story noahbody and what an ideal situation to create a haunted storyline O31Man.
I just hate all that politically correct/incorrect stuff. I say WHATEVER to that silliness. Sorry that's another rant! Anyhoooo, way back in grammer school I seem to remember something about missing colonists in Va. and the name Croatan carved into a tree. Perhaps something along that line. This has to do w/Native Americans though so it may be a no go for the pc'ers.
Also, if you are in Fla., some other natrual tie-ins are:
Pirates. Maybe settlers managed to kill them, stole their booty, and got cursed.
Ponce de Leon. The settlers actually found, what they thought, was the fountain of youth. But they got greedy and wanted to keep it for themselves. So they dammed it up and that's what created the lake. Eventually they start murdering one another in order to keep the secret. Bodies are thrown into lake. All this evilness turns the spring/lake bad but the murder victums spirits stay alive in the lake.
Swamp-thing and or zombies could also be easily tied into the above stories. I see endless posibilites.
The community forum could be a real hoot too! Once you decide on your story, Get that ole rumor mill going (just not too soon). Start w/a small blurb about documents being found in some archive, preferably foreign, that MAY have some connection to your areas settlement history. Next, documents have apparently been verified as authentic but contents are not being released due to international concerns, privacy act, and all that kinda stuff. Then, new construction rumored to be stopped by Feds, DEA, Men in Black b/c of health and safety issues. Finally, right before you open, "leak" your story line. Just remember to keep things vague i.e. fake foreign places, names, was heard from grandma's cousin once removed who lives in Madagascar?

Thanks Oct and AB,
Croatan, was used in the TV show "Supernatural" and from I gather from that, you are correct.
Very good ideas.
I updated the story a little bit.Last edited by noahbody; 07-15-2007 at 05:46 AM.

Thanks AuntBite and Noahbody! I like your ideas!
I think I am going to go with the blood water story and release it in episodes on the forum. I even created a forum just for the haunt! Please tell me what you think! http://oct31man.com/hauntedlodge/YaB...rd=legendhasit

Great story Noahbody, has lots of potiential, Oct31man, great intro, good way to grab interest, leave them wanting more. By the time you set up the lodge, every one will be prepared with back ground story, ready to be scared.
I have flying monkeys- and I'm not afraid to use them!

For PC names you can use derivations of plants or animals.
Like the "people of the pines" were overcome with the dreaded "sabal sickness" from the "great lizard (gator) worshipers" or "great cat (or insert cat of choice, like panther) worshipers" so that it fits the outdoors and is something the kids can grasp and personalize.
oh and btw, there is a movie coming out about the missing settlers and it looks good!

Thanks bethene! I liked the idea from Auntbite, about just giving little blurbs of th story.
I like the picture Noahbody! I'd like to use that as an artist's rendition in the future, if that's OK.
Excellent idea Ishwitch! I like the plant and animal idea! That shouldn't offend them. I won't put too much effort into pleasing everyone in the neighborhood, but I could just hear a certain few whining already! You should have heard one mother when I was getting the volunteers' opinions on which movie clips to play in the theater. She acted as if I would be violating their innocence if I played Jason fighting Freddy! Jeesh!

Wonderful start on your fourm Oct31Man! I have some ?'s and thoughts: Is the lodge on or by the water? If so, will patrons be able to walk out by the lake or on the pier?
Reason I'm askin is, I'm luv'n noahbody's pic. Paticularly the glowing skulls piled up on the shore. Maybe even have some floating in the water(I'm thinking of the battery operated lighted one's form Big Lots) an/or around the pier. Even better would if you could submerge some in the water. Something like that scene in one of the LotR movies where Frodo sees the faces in the swamp and falls in.
Again with the pc stuff, I've run into the same prob when asking opinions. Such a drag. You are right in that you'll never be able to please everyone. Just hold your head up and keep on truck'n! Or "prop'n" as the case may be. Great thought from IshWitch too on the subject. BTW, we have a huge pirate festival here every year. Several years back the use of the Jolly Roger was banned b/c of supposed occult connections. However it's ok for pirates to come in, make the mayor walk the plank into our lake at the point of a sword, and take over the city. Go figure????
Say, how bout mutant manatee's? Wonder if anyone's done those before or if it would upset your local yuckety yuckks?
