Has anyone ever used one of these theater breakaway bottles?
The Cheapest I have found them was $17 (+S&H) a piece on line. Not bad because we would really only need one, but when I have read up on them it says to have a back up bottle, that seems to be more so for a Play production when they would be purchasing a case and running the Play for a couple of showings . I don't really want to waste $17 if I don't need it, but I would hate to get to the point of using it and it not working.
Any Tips?

I've used these multiple times during the special effects demonstrations I do at the local high school. They do break rather easily, and are very thin. Although they used to be made out of sugar, they are now made mostly out of a lightweight epoxy resin. They don't hurt as much as you'd think getting hit with one, but you do have to be careful not to "follow through" with the swing, or the remaining part of the glass can scratch you up pretty good. $17.00 really isn't a bad price for these.

Yea, what Bob said.
Or you could use a product like "SMASH!" from Smooth-on to make your own.

Thanks for the feed back!!!
Lurks - I did look at SMASH but I figured I would end up spending about the same and it probably would not look right. Have you ever made your own?
I thought $17 wasn't too bad, I saw them for $20 - $40, and a case (6) for $108, but I don't need 6.
Also how is the sound? Does it sound like Glass breaking?Man cannot live on bread alone.... (unless he is in a cage and that is all you feed him.)

Thought I would refresh this one because I am ready to actually make the purchase and wanted to know if there was any feedback from others.

If you invest in a candy thermometer and mold, you could make your own. I'm sure if you googled candy making you will find hundreds of thousand sites on hard candy making.
I'm sure it's just like making a ceramic...you fill the mold with product and swish it around inside and pour out the excess and let the shell harden.**********
