And why?
With Wilbret, Jr., on on the way, I have started looking for real jobs again. So, the prospect of moving has set in. I turned down some great jobs in order to stay here (Columbus, GA)...but having to pay for insurance and not having a steady income aren't my ideal for raising a kid.
I have lived in small town GA, University towns, Atlanta, Seattle, and here... I like elements of them all. We love small town feel, but not the boredom. We like big cities, but not the traffic. We love the beach but not the heat. We love the mountains but not driving in snow. And so on.
The two cities I would LOVE to live in would be Seattle and San Diego. Pleasant temperatures, so much to do, and so on. If it wasn't for that pesky cost of living!
So where would you live, if there was a guarantee of a job?

Well, I was born and raised in Ohio (east side). When I was 26, I’d had enough of the cold and snow and moved to Irvine, California. I loved it there! Pleasant weather year around and located between Los Angeles and San Diego so plenty to do there. I could have happily lived there for the rest of my life but only did so for eight years. Due to family illness I moved to Florida in 1990 and have been here ever since. I don’t like Florida but family obligation keeps me here. And, I never would have met Mr. L if I hadn’t moved to Florida so I guess this state isn’t all bad.
Our long range plans are to move to Nevada (outskirts of Las Vegas). Would love to return to California but the cost of living is just too high. We both like the dry heat (will be good for my arthritis) and we love the Vegas atmosphere. No state income tax there and the cost of housing seems to be affordable, at least what I’ve seen online anyway.
We don’t worry too much about job opportunities since Mr. L is an armed guard with 18 years experience at a nuke plant (I think he wants to work security at the casino’s) and I’m a social worker with 22 years experience so anywhere people have problems, there’s a job for me.
But, we definitely want to move to a neighborhood with lots of Tot’ers (don’t we all)! Still trying to figure out how to screen for that when house hunting.
By the way, I don’t believe I ever said congrats on Wilbret, Jr.! Great to have another budding haunter on the way!!"Look what your brother did to the door!" Original TCM

I'm a born and raised Michigander. As much as I love the state, I moved away when I was in my late 40s during a divorce, to Maine.
Although in a lot of ways I like Maine, I'm not one of those rich transplants who made their money and retired here to oceanfront property. The wages are low, and the cost of living is high.
I too am tired of cold, so if I had my way, I'd move to the US virgin islands, and make my living as a charter fishing captain(ess).
Will never happen, though, but it's nice to dream.

Michigal.... we'd move to an island, too... if it were an option. I could so live my life like a Jimmy Buffett bum.

I've lived all over the world and many of the US States, and I can't say as any of them was great enough that I'd desire to move from where I'm at right now. I'm in my hometown right now. My Dad is talking about selling his house, and moving to tennessee soon. Once he does that I'll probably move to my wife's hometown of Peoria, Ill because I'll have no family left here.

Southern France.
No, not the Riviera, tha's just too bizarre for me. But about 80 km north of there is a town called Avignon that I visited many years ago. It was the home of the Pope before they moved to the Vatican. Think of Southern California, but with no smog and snow-capped peaks on either side. Just beautiful. Great food andf the people are nice, too.
Where I live now is pretty nice, but I'll never forget Avignon.Wolfman

Wolfman, that little cafe...the waiter...Jean Luc.... and some caramel mocca coffee from international testers.
Your post sounded like a commercial. :-)

Arizona. Living in the Northwest for so long, I'm SICK of rain and gray and trees and 50 degrees and trees and rain and more trees and 50 degrees and rain and trees.
Wait... Did you hear that?

I'm a midwest girl. I love it here, we get every kind of weather.
I do love San Diego, I would move there, but the thing that would stop me is the traffic.
I'm in the Chicago suburbs which you can get the small town feel, but the city is close enough and you can easily take a train to commute. Winters can be brutal, but there is no place that is perfect.
Purely and simply evil
