Howdy all, been awhile. Man have I got a lot of pots of the fire at this moment. Never learned how to do just one thing at a time. With the wife and I splitting up ( it's still a good thing ) I won't have the help I need to run a walk through this year. Believe it or not that's the only part about the split that bummed me out. LOL So I'm going to put up a display instead. Going from a 4 foot wide path through a graveyard to a 12 foot wide driveway. If I can muster up enough fence I'll get 40+ more feet of display space between the two trees in the front yard. (means I'll have to park my car in the back yard , or in the front yard and use it as part of the display). Kind of a new thing for me. Going form something you walk through to something only seen from one direction. The only draw back will be there will be no safe zone for litt'l TOT's. Oh well, can't have it all.

The good things about this arrangement.
No beaten path through my front yard.
No hey to rake up the day after. ( used to make path VERY visible )
No kids trying to wander through the yard and not on the path.
No parents wandering through the yard.
No rope and rebar fence to measure out at put up. ( just to have some kids wander under it and walk through the yard )
Electricity will be a lot easier to run. Wont have to hang a line up in a tree to keep it out of the path. Use less cords.

I've only had one year when I had help setting up so no help there is the norm. Still plan on setting almost everything up Halloween morning. That's always been the norm. LOL The only real drawback will be I'll loose that 'haunted house' feel. TOT's won't be completely surrounded by the display. And I guarentee I'll hear about it. These kids are spoiled. LOL

Putrid, I'm sorry to hear about the splitup. That sucks, even if it's for the best.

But I'm glad to hear you're not giving up the spirit. As you pointed out, it will be much easier for you this way. And the "spoiled" kids will adjust. Just be prepared to take the treats to the end of your drive for the little ones too afraid to come up to the house. Or have someone down at the beginning to pass it out for you.

    Welcome back, btw.

you can bet on the fact that you will hear about the display idea instead of the walkthrough if your neibours are used to it I got a lot of wow cool display but are you doing a walkthrough next year, we hope so.

Pute, my wife decided to terminate our relationship when I was 42, I feel for you. I'm not saying that you should run off to a Tropical Island in the South Pacific like I did, but you WILL survive.

Down here we went from a full on Walk-thru to an outside display last year. the Walk-thru gotto be too much of a hassle. Instead of elaborate scenarios involving lighting, sound, special effects and actors, we went with Blow-You-Away Treats and a "decent" outdoor display. Less stress, the kids LOVE winning DVD Players, CD Players and DVD's in the "Raffle" that we now run. And, hey, getting chased out by a guy wearing a Hockey Mask and waving a Chainsaw NEVER grows old!

Not to worry, buddy, scale back this year and have fun.

Sometimes change is a good thing. As long as you have fun with what you’re doing your audience will adjust. We’ve never had a safe area for the little ones (but will go outside the garage if needed to give them their treats). As the years have gone by we’ve found that even the little ones come into the garage now, well, they run in as fast as their little legs will carry them, get their candy and then run out, or they stick like glue to Mom or Dad but at least they make it inside. Last year we only had three boys (about 8-9 years old) that took one look inside and ran for their lives without getting a treat. They ran so fast we didn’t have time to stop them. I like to look at it as therapeutic, we help the little ones learn early to conquer their fears, lol.

Thanks everyone. This year I'll be it. A one man show. Unfortunately I wont be able to accommodate the little TOT's. Hopefully I can put together something to keep the bigger TOT's away too. More candy for ME!! Maybe a big spider for my head wth moving legs. That'll keep most of em away! JK LOL.
