LOL....I like the “skelleck!” Just have to scary up the face a bit! I hate to admit it but I’ve lived 50 years and never seen or heard of a sock monkey. Guess I’ve led a sheltered life.

I'm shocked! I thought everyone knew about them. It was something I wanted when I was a kid. My aunt made them, but she wouldn't make us any. I guess she wanted my mom to do it, I don't know, but it always aggravated me!

I love that skellie, I am going to make one and that will be perfectly better than the sock monkey I never had!

Cool idea. I'm going to try it too. I'm thinking I will use patches of material for the bones.

Maybe sock monkeys are a southern thing? (I'm in TX, and they are everywhere -- someone made me one when I was a kid)

We're from Michigan, so it wasn't a southern thing, it was more like a "60's" thing!

That is really cool and looks like a good "it's summer and I need to do something Halloween related" activity. I just saw a similar project that creates "JACK"-the rotten old Irishman that created the JOL. You can make him look pretty damn sinister-the perfect doll to sit on my couch! Wrap material around the body for tattered clothing and strands of hemp for an evil guy goatee, or just be creative as most people here probably are!

In all honesty, with my drawing skills, I would butcher the thing, lol.

So fun! Yeah, my freehand skills are lacking to, so I'm thinking it'd be fun to cut up iron-on patches into skull & bones and attach with an iron.

    It must be a '60s thing, 'cuz I had a sock-monkey too!
