I was reading someone's comment about hard drives falling into the wrong hands and the perception police would have of us Halloweenophiles....
What would the yard sale or estate sale be like if you died today?
I wonder if my wife would sell it? And what are the chances people coming to regular old yard sale would walk away with my monster in a box?
I think it would be funny to see all the Baptist Blue Hair reactions to skeletons all over the place, countless strobe lights and black lights....

Good topic, wilbret.
In my case, there wouldn't be an estate/yard sale. My husband is the King of the Packrats (he still has bags and bags of junk mail stored from 12 years ago...I kid you not) so he certainly wouldn't get rid of anything of actual use.
Now, if he died first, and my kids were in charge, they'd probably just burn the stuff. Sad, but true. The hubby and kids may enjoy the compliments, but it's like pulling teeth to get them to help me set up or take down. Although my one son ran the fully built crypt down to the road singlehandedly last year and my other did help me bring some stuff up.

Thats like having to take your ipod in for repair, do you really want anyone knowing whats on it?!
I would roll over in my grave if they sold my collectables too cheap!
Then I could haunt them.

Wow, that is a good question. It's kind of sad thinking they could just get rid of it all and not keep any of it, but I think there's a few things they'd keep for sentimental reasons. It'd be the scariest estate sale ever! My husband (like me) is pretty thrifty, so I think he'd probably either eBay my "collectibles" (in quotes because they're worth more to me than having any actual cash value) or sell them in lots. Still, I'd hope he (or the kids) would keep some of it!
And yeah, I'd have to haunt 'em if they sold 'em too low!Haunt to Live ... Live to Haunt

Well Wilbret, I'm almost afraid to think how people would react to my kind of yard sale.
My wife would probably keep some of the stuff as a momento.
My oldest Granddaughter would probably want a lot of it for her room.
But the rest, I can only visualize the people in my area looking at the props and scratching their heads and saying "Something is wrong with that boy", or "That boy is just not right".
I seriously doubt if any of it would sell, unless it was close to Halloween.
But you have given me an idea.
I've been after my wife to have a yard sale so I can get rid of some stuff around here.
I think I'll put a couple of my skulls, skeletons, and my coffin out just to see what would happen.
Why wait till you're gone to see what reaction people have to your props.Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional

i dont think my husband would sell my halloween stuff , first reason would be my daugther because she loves this stuff and her daddy would just do all the decorations and props for her
and i also think he finally got into it too
i dont collect anything else anymore so no worries their either , only things i "collect" is plants (perrenials) have many gardens outside so he cannot sell those and he aleready helps with those and loves it too

I'm in the same boat, Michgal!
Hubby and kids don't want to help. The oldest will under duress if home, the youngest is interested and made a prop last year but too busy and never here to get any work out of.
If I died, hubby would probably haul it out to the road the very next garbage day (although youngest may scavenge some things like the buckies).
If hubby died this house would have a new interior design!

Great post! But I have no idea! haha. I would HOPE, my family would go on and still do the haunt, since they know I love it so much. I can defintaly see them selling some stuff and making our haunt more of a front yard haunt rather then an actrual walk-thru. Hmm..this is an amazing question to ask them!

Great topic!
The thought of my treasure/trash being pawed through by only slightly interested yardsalers is quite depressing.
I have started cataloging much of it.
Appraisal, photo and restocking has proved quite a chore.
Many of my things are pretty old, some unique and with out real clear descriptions most would just be sold as "just old junk".
I am still working on the ephemera area and will be inventorying dead guy photos for a long time.
Big things like my antique embalming station are likely to "out there" to get buyers.

We had been "grooming" a 4 year old we babysit since he was born to take over everything one day and things looked to be going along great until he walked into my garage a few weeks ago.
One look at a bucky sent him into hysterics and now I think he will never recover
