Every year I get banged with the questions or assumptions that I do halloween for the "devil" OR that I shouldn't be doing our haunted house because it worships the devil. This year my mom has been horrible towards my hobby (my haunted house). We are Christian, but this year she's getting more into Christianity. (which is fine by me, just don't bring down my hobby). My question is...what is your religion? Or views on it being a satan worshipping holiday?

I'm agnostic. I don't believe in the Bible. I like to toy with people who think they have all the answers.
My favorite is to ask, "What did Lucifer do that was so bad to get kicked out of the kingdom of heaven?"
It's fun to see all the different answers.
Fundamentalist spend so much time trying to save your soul that they miss out on spending time with you.A short drop and a sudden stop.

I'm not religious at all. I guess that means I'm also an agnostic. It's difficult to believe in a benevolent God when you consider that butterflies and typhoid would have to come from the same source.
I've also found that it doesn't help reminding the Fundamentalists that Halloween predates Christianity by hundreds of years. "Devil's Birthday" - yeah, right.
Apologies in advance for pushing any buttons.I...have many names...

I am not as religious as a lot of other people.
I believe everything happens for a reason.
And you can't have good without bad, kinda like yin & yang.
I'm 59 and have loved Halloween since I was a kid.
It had never entered my mind that it was a day for the devil.
That is until a couple of years ago when I had someone get on my case about it being the devil's holiday.
There are people out there that will find something wrong or evil no matter what.
So to them I say
1. If you don't like what I do then stay away.
2. Don't try to force your ideas on to me.
And it those two don't work, I say.
BITE ME!!!Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional

Anyone who studies the true history of Halloween knows that the holiday has nothing to do with Satanism or the devil.
I will refrain from standing on my soapbox, but everyone should watch the history channel's history of Halloween show that they play every year as well as other reliable sources.

I to have a religious mother and was kicked out of more christian schools than I can remember. Seems there beliefs could not sustain themselves with my corruptable influince amongst them.
When I encounter these folks I tend to like to have fun as well being raised on the king james bible and having it shoved done my throat for 13 years has given my plenty of knowledge to egg others on. They usually leave me in a huff and never return. This year I have been toying with the idea of setting up an area where they can have there soap box. However, It sounds as if you still live at home and am in no position to create an argumentative enviroment. Being from such an enviroment my advice is to have your fun just dont flaunt it in her face. Especially if she delving deeper or becoming recommited to her choice of religion. You could try to educate her but its doubtful to have a positive effect.
As far as devil worshipping goes I dont have an opinion never meet one probably never will and it has nothing to do with halloween.

When you look in the mirror at midnight,....what looks back at you.........

I hate that some religious people project their views unto others. Just because you believe in the devil doesn't mean I do.
Something wicked this way comes...

I encourage everyone who hasn't done so already to visit the link Larry provided.
People who call Halloween evil or 'of the devil' are showing their ignorance of the facts behind the long, storied and multi-cultural history of this amazing holiday.
Ironically, the most fundamentally driven Christians are the loudest anti-Halloween screamers, yet this very act shows what little faith they have in the God they otherwise think is so all-powerful (to wit, 'S'matter? God's not big and strong enough to take care of things, so you have to help Him with your puny intellect and fear?')... it's ridiculous, and infuriating every time I encounter it.
But you have to laugh it off, which works most of the time. For the more insistent/persistent needlers of 'you're doing the Devil's work', the link Larry gives will get you better answers.
The religious whacko is a constant in the Halloween realm, a perpetual finger in the ribs we all have to deal with at some point. How we do that can help or hurt our reputation as haunters. Be right, but be kind too!

i say make your haunt devil themed =) all joking aside, point them towards the christian "hell houses" or "judgment houses" that are put on every halloween by different christian organizations! these are kits sold to churches and they are some of the most violent, disturbing, outright offensive haunted houses out there. all to "save" their patrons who pay to be force fed salvation, fire and brimstone propaganda.
here's a link to a video of a hell house ad complete with original song.
lets take real serious issues, spin it so the real problem is avoided. say the devil caused it all. include gay marriage, send them to hell. Now we'll tell you basically that this is all ok and/or can be prevented if you accept Jesus into your lives. Yeah, ok. And the graveyard with ghosts and creatures in my haunt have WHAT to do with satan. Their "haunt" is like 11 o'clock news on broadway with satan himself and hell as the main acts.
grrr, the hypocracy always gets me riled up. i'll stop now.
anyway, at least a bunch of actors got together to do a hollywood parody of hell houses using real dialog from many of them. here's a funny video of the different actors depicting satan."Trick or treat" is not a greeting, it's an ultimatum ~ Spats
