We're about to paint our house and have been talking about landscaping for our backyard. I've seen lots of great shows and magazines with beautiful yards.
BUT
I keep hesitating because I don't want to lose my yard haunt layout.

You can all see my yard on photobucket. Thanks to some "new" fertilizer/ant&bug killer product our service tried we have steadily lost our lawn and now basically have a blank slate to work with.
So I thought about starting this thread for ideas for landscaping that will add nice elements to our yard and yet not hinder my haunt. I'd love to hear any and all's ideas and have anyone in the same predicament add their problem areas here as well.
We help each other in our Halloween endeavors, this is just another layer of our onion!

Wow, so are they going to resod your lawn? Some species of grass aren't tolerant of weed killers intended for broadleaf weeds... I think St. Augustine is one of them.

And here I am thinking "Yay! No turf!"
I hate turf...sorry...
consider using hedges, or even raised bed gardens with curved beds, to define "hallways" leading your guests through the walkthrough. Just a thought.a plague on both your houses

IshWitch , i love gardening and have many perrenial flower beds here and it never stoped me from building my display around it cause when halloween gets near pretty much everything needs to be cut down anyway
and for the themes i had before it didnt detract from the halloween display either it worked in very well ....
only problem is people wouldnt be able to walk ON the flower beds otherwise it will damage your plants the year after from being overstepped on ....
sorry about your lawn , here where the play area is for my soon to be 4 year old daugther we have ant problems so the lawn there is dry and dies , i tried many things and they wont go away ....
here are links to my halloween albums and the other link my gardens so might help you see or get some ideas ?

Florida huh well I dont know what is natural for that region but from the pics I will make some suggestions.
Regrade the yard so that it slopes away from the house or place raised beds that will cause the water to flow away from the house.
Trim back some of the trees and let some light in. Yeah okay we like it dark and it is darn hot there but light is good.
Try lawncafe.com it is primarily for the professioanl but there are sections for homeowners just scrol down to the bottom of the page.
