So...thursday night..I go for one last email check before bed....
    And posted on freecycle...
A REAL, intact...casket. Only a few lining tears.
    I freak...frantically email...
and wait...all friday..hoping, praying....and the horrible post comes up
    "Taken:casket(wish I had more LOL)"
    *sigh*

So which of you was it? Who stole my casket? I will find you..oh yes...
Don't worry...you'll look great as part of the new prop....

    Grrrrrrrrrrrr.....

granamyr it sounds like that when you find the casket and who stole it from under you that your display will end up having BOTH a real casket AND a real corpse in it this year!

Did they say if it was a low-miles casket only driven once, on Sunday, to the local graveyard?
Many years ago about closing time, 12 midnight, a hairy guy showed up here by himself in an old junk pickup truck, as he walked toward me he said, "I've got something that you need."
    (Fat chance!)
There in the back of his truck was a real coffin, kind of beat up.
I was suspicious. I was looking for dirt, shovels in the truck.....
    "Where did you get this?"
"Oh it's been sittin in an old farmhouse for about 4 years now, some JCs once had a haunted house there and they left it behind when they left, the house is about to be tore down, so I snagged it."
It has been hanging upside-down from my ceiling in one room of my haunted house, people notice it when they walk under it, usually.
Doesn't everybody display their coffin this way?
It makes it easier for the bats to fly right in at sunrise.

I would suggest that you see if the freecycler would give you the email of the person who got it and then offer $50-100 or so... they might be moved more by money than what they got... for some free stuff is just that... free. If you have a haunt, a few items that are GONE all the sudden come back once I explain what I am doing with it and this is for a FREE HALLOWEEN event for the local community. Being one of those that got a real casket... they are a pain in the butt - the new owner might not have thought it thru enough and now attempting to figure out what to do with it. before they do... step up to the plate with a $50 solution. Contact the person who posted it... and offer CASH... ya might be able to convince the owner to fall thru.. again focus on KIDS, COMMUNITY, FREE as well as invite them to stop by, check out your stuff and maybe even play around. ask them what the other person wants if for...

it's war, when it comes to halloween stuff... and if your in my neighborhood and got hurt... I would pry it out of your hands first, determine if your body is usable for a halloween prop... then call 911

Gravedigger...you crack me up!!! We went to a home haunt yard sale last year that was closing down an hour away...my hubby and I showed up an hour before it opened (at 7 in the morning) with our baby bundled up in the cold....we were such vultures!!! Swooped in on almost EVERYTHING nice!!! Threw it into a big pile with thought that we could always put it back out after we figured what we wanted. People there hated us for sure! The sellers actually came by our place on halloween and gave us a bag of costumes and a few masks they had left...it was great!!!

I bought a coffin off of ebay last year. I love it! It is handmade but still heavy. A real coffin is generally very heavy, I agree with gdgreg. Make the call! If it doesn't work you are no worse off than you are now. Just still on the prowl for a coffin.
