I would have to say "Children of the Corn".

I saw it when I was young and I couldn't sleep for days...

There is a Japanese film that translates to "Ghost Actress" or "Don't Look Up."

OMG- That film had me scared just THINKING about it afterward...in the DAYLIGHT! If you haven't seen it, go rent! They build fear and suspense without the gore...although that's certainly there as well. I was scared watching the DVD in my bright livingroom. I think I'd jumped out of my skin if I'd seen it in a darkened theater!

I love scary movies without the gore stuff! Poltergist was one of my favorites, but Jeepers Creepers 2 was so friggin scary. It had a little gore, but it was scary!

Blair Witch Project scared be into a 3 day insomnia spell - I won't watch it to this day. Like a good haunt, it's all in how the suspense is dealt and the scare delivered.

It's VERY hard to narrow it down to five, let alone one single favorite.
But I'd have to say Night of the Living Dead or Dawn of the Dead come closest to being my favorite... then again, The Exorcist... oh and then there's The Innocents... and geez, ya got Se7en, Zombi, Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolfman... ah, I shouldn't have bothered trying! :-)

Let's safely say anything ending in 'of the (Living) Dead' is likely to be my most viewed film. After that, I love them all.
Except, alas for Darkness and her otherwise excellent tastes, Blair Witch Project. I DON'T hate it, at all, in fact enjoy it pretty well, but it's probably my least favorite of the modern crop of films. No offense Dark!

The Shining - but I've watched it too many times.

The Ring sent me into a tailspin for a day or two.
    Wait... Did you hear that?

I have 100's of Horror flicks on DVD. I collect them. I think I'm pretty jaded now. I haven't seen anything good in a long time. The Exorcist still does it. I love the sets in the original 1931 Dracula. The Grudge creeped me out a bit. When I was young Amityville scared me to death.
