I was just wondering, over here in the UK, those of us who do celebrate Halloween only do so on 31st Oct. I believe that most of you guys have your displays out for days or weeks! How do you fair with the trick or treaters, do you only give out candy on one the one night ?
Another thought I have is somehow keeping track of the tots, does anyone stamp their hands, like in clubs or at shows, so that they only get the one treat?

The ToT's only go around on Halloween night...or the designated Trick or Treat night. Some cities will designate a different night...particularly if it falls on a Sunday (church).
Im not aware of any who keep a close track of the ToT's revisiting. Most will recognize an abuser and run them off if need be.

Tot'ing is always on one day, Halloween.
Pre-schoolers usually do that during the day with their neighbors. Otherwise it's early evening Tot'ing, after Supper.

Ok here in oklahoma , If you show up you get some candy. I know of kids that go around to all the houses then change costumes and go around again. That is to much work. last year i gave out 5 big bags of candy and over 300 glow sticks. And yes I seen some kids 2 or 3 times. They told me they just came back to take another look or photos of my yard. But i gave them candy anyway. We put some of the stuff out early but the best stuff we save till halloween night. I just wish we had a club around here close. You guys in CA are so lucky.

i am in Canada , and trick or treating is one night on halloween night, some towns will have the trick or treating during the weekend if the 31st is a week night , BUT we are here to welcome people the weekend before and the 31st and if people visit with kids before halloween as we have a few that do each year , they get their candy bags.....we have a sign at roadside that sais the days and hours that your welcome to visit , otherwise when you have a big haunt display like we do people think they can barge in on you anytime (even with the sign they still do)...some do it respectfully , some dont.....espacially this year we had strong rain winds all the weekend before , flying tombtones , decor all over the place demolish and people still drove by and stop in THAT BAD WEATHER to visit !!!!
the word to mouth from people each year and this year espacially with all the newspaper pictures and article of our haunt it was madness , people even tracked down our telephone number and wore calling us to visit .
as for keeping track of kids coming more then once , the kids with parents are usually respectfull to come once for candy since we are out of town in the country but i did get my first missbehave 2 kids this year that just entered the foyer and went to the witch cauldron and helped themselves after i gave them the candy bag on the porch , i had to get those kids out of the house and their mother was right outside saying nothing .....but so far people been respectfull.A Witch from Canada

Here in N/B, we have the city-recognized neighborhood ToT'g on Oct. 31. In tandem, each of the downtown business associations, and also the mall, sponsor ToT'g, so there is a 'safer' option for paranoid parents.
We actually do the downtown one first since it starts at 5, is outside, and the kids go around to all the businesses and get a slice of pizza and treats. Once the kids are warmed up, and it's dark, we head out around the neighborhood. Makes for a fun and busy evening!
I never mind if kids come around again, as long as they've put on another costume!Haunt to Live ... Live to Haunt

TOTing is 6pm to 8pm on Oct. 31st, unless it falls on an "inconvienent" day of the week, then usually on a Fri. or Sat. closest to the 31st. However each town in my area is different, so we usually get to TOT in several different towns on different nights, all within about 10 mi. or so of each other.

Rod:
This "shifting" of Hallowe'en is a rather new development that I really don't feel good about. Hallowe'en on Sunday? Why the Bloody Hell not? It gives the kids something to talk about at school the next day. It's another case of otherwise-powerless bureaucrats meddling in something they know nothing about.
It's the 31st of October, "All Hallow's Eve", and it should stay that way.Wolfman
