I came across this site and wonder whether anyone has any experience with 'photo-ops':
http://www.bastardrat.com/2005fridayphoto.html
Are they popular? I mean, do people actually use them? I like the idea but am concerned it's a little too cutesy (although that would be great for the Sparks/Brownie Halloween party). I know I could do something more scary and I would love to see any examples created by forum members.
Thanks

i was wondering the same thing , that Bastardrat web site is full of neat ideas to work with.....
i do prefer the haunted changing portraits then those .....i think their too cutesy too....
is their a programm on the internet or demo to do these haunted portraits ? i use to have a progamm a few years ago that came with an epson printer and you could make fantasy photos like western wanted signs or your face on a magazine cover instead of a celebrety face etc.....is it the same stuff ? or are those done on a more professional programm like paint shop or photoshop ?A Witch from Canada

I never have used dedicated photo op props before, but I will for 07. Our grim reaper became an unofficial photo prop, as LOTS of people crossed into the cemetery to pose with him.
I figure if I set something up particularly for pics, maybe it will keep people out of my yard... Now to find something not cutesy and not so scary that the little TOTs will run away from it!Gothikim

Like Gothikim, I have had unofficial photo-ops almost every year. Usually its my Pumpkin King scarecrow that people gravitate towards but almost any static prop near the street does the trick. I kinda like the idea and was thinking about building a stockade that people could put their heads through with the haunt's name on it.

Precisely what I was wondering: do you go for a staged prop area or the classic cardboard cut-out style? I like the interactive aspect of Greencapt's idea.
Witch: I think Photoshop was used for the haunted portraits but I am also interested in an online program. I'll have to look into that a bit more.Something wicked this way comes...

yes wrote my reply and read to fast your post lol ,i think i shold maybe go back to bed today one of those days lol..... the portraits he did of his family members are probably done with photoshop and programs like that ....pretty sure their are demos on the internet for those to play with....maybe do a search on download.com
the OPs i never used , people here just want to take pictures with the displays ......we wanted to do that 2 years ago with a guillotine prop but finally decided not too.....might be fun since we have tots and tons of kids at halloween .A Witch from Canada

We havent done this before but do like the idea. We are looking at it for this year but have yet to figure out the prob but it will be sturdy. the change for us is that we will be moving from a mostly static props veiwed from behind the fence to something of a walk through cemetary. new house new ideas

Same here, slightlymad. I liked last year's set up but, like yours, it was mostly static and viewed behind a fence. This summer we'll be fencing in the backyard to add a walk-through. (My husband offered to fence off the yard 4 years ago but I declined. He can't figure out why I have changed my mind now. I'm sure he'll be thrilled when he figures it out...)

I like the idea of either a cutout or a static prop. Heck, you could do what I saw ot our local Ren Fair one year: put a digicam, docking station, laptop and printer on a table in front of the set-up. Snap the pic and print it on some photo paper in a return for a donation that will be split between your haunt 's operating cost and a local charity.
