I was reading the thread about Skull Kingdom closing and was thinking of ways to keep a viable Haunt open all year.
The thought I had was to have a dinner theatre, where the dinning area was done up like a dilaptated old Grand Hall, with mirrors on all the walls. These would be those two way mirror tricks like we know and love from Haunted Mansion....with animatronics behind some....live actors behind others.
The place would also have many of those skeletal chandiliers hung from the ceiling, automated bats flying and hanging about, maybe some projected ghosts floating around the ceiling...come to think of it...it would be kinda like the Grand Hall from the Harry Potter movies, but much more sinister.
The stage plays could all be of the darker type, like Edger Allen Poe, Shakespere, or even lesser known authors whos' short stories can easily be translated to stage.
There could even be a rather small or modest, walk through, interactive Haunt, that patrons can visit on their way out or such.
Let's build this in our minds together...throw some of your ideas into it!

There was a manor for sale one town over from us that went up for sale. It had a very gothic feel to it, stone exterior, grand sitting room with a huge fireplace and several rooms. It doubled as a B-n-B. If I had the cash ($1mill. was the asking price) I would have loved to buy it and make it into a place where people could spend the night and investigate eerie happenings. Sort of have something scratching at their walls at night, distant moans and strange lights coming from the fields behind the manor. Include some elaborate story about how the manor is haunted. But I'm a poor boy and alas, the manor is no longer for sale. One can dream, however.

There is a horror themed restraunt called "Jekyll & Hydes".
A handful of them were scattered across the country. The one in Chicago, Il. closed but, I believe the one in NY is still open.

There are actually 2 in NYC. I haven't been to the original one in the village, but the one in midtown is great. Very entertaining, and the food isn't too bad. The same corp. that owns them just openned a haunted attraction by me on LI, "The Bayville Scream Park." It was open for Halloween, but was still under construction, should be great when it is finished, theme restaurant, rides, and 3 haunt walk thru's.
There is a little EVIL in everyone..... Some of us are just better at showing it!!!!!!
