Just read on http://www.hauntedhousemagazine.com that Skull Kingdom in Florida is closing. Everything is being put up for a one bid auction. Always a sad day when one of our kind of places closes, especially one that was open 365.

Oh man that sucks! Wanted to go there when we went to Orlando a few years back but never got the chance. Drats!

I wondered what the heck that place was. Now that I do, I wish I had gone. I think it would be very hard to keep an attraction like that open and financially viable year-round. (with all due respect to Raven's Grin, of course)

I’m very sorry to see Skull Kingdom close. Mr. L and I went there once about three years ago. It certainly wasn’t Halloween Horror Nights but I felt it was a good haunt. I liked the opening scene (only because it didn’t happen to me). Everyone was waiting in a bull pen area when the door bursts open and a monster jumps out and screams right into the audience. The girl closest to that door went flying about three feet back in fright. The story line was plausible, the actors were good and they relied upon several monsters chases. The end was a chainsaw chase out the exit door. It scared me but I’m a sucker for being chased. I really hate something chasing me. Mr. L loves the chases because he likes to laugh at my shrieks of terror. Nothing ever seems to scare him. I was hoping the auction would be for individual items. Would have loved to have a piece of Skull Kingdom.

well that sucks, I think that was the last full time haunt in Orlando. There used to be so many. I went up to wisconsin dells at christmas and am happy to report that there were at least 5 haunts in town and only one that was up for rent. The full time haunt is alive and well in Wisconsin.

That is so sad! And I never went, such a shame! I always wanted to but just didn't.
I hope whoever buys the stuff creates a really awesome haunt!

The past few years Skull Kingdom really went downhill, sad that it closed, but I can understand why.
The business section this past week here in the Orlando Sentinel said a developer has purchased the property and it looks as if they are going to build an apartment complex. The housing situation in Orlando isn't good and we need affordable apartments in the tourist corridor, so all in all it looks as if the closing of Skull Kingdom might actually benefit the locals to a certain extent.I came here to chew bubble gum and kick ass. I'm all out of bubble gum.
Laurie: "Was that the boogeyman?"
Dr. Loomis: "As a matter of fact...that was."

Interesting to hear a local perspective. I agree I hope someone's able to buy & remake it elsewhere.
