I have never been a big fan personally, but a Christmas party we go to every year has a DJ with a Karaoke setup. Let's just say that by late in the night, it's the main event.
Do any of you setup for Karaoke? Is it worth it? I think that after a few hours, it would be a break from the Halloween themed music I always play.
I am looking for more stuff to try to get people to do stuff and stay the whole night. We have so many late arrivals and early leavers that many people aren't even here at the same time!

Oxen carry yoke , across their backs. They sort of grunt and wheeze instead of singing much though.

Wilbret,
I can only tell you that a couple years ago, for my husband's class reunion, I played the part of the "KJ." We rented the equipment from a KJ/DJ friend, and had boxes of the CDs also. It was the biggest hit. The gathering loved it.
Don't do one of those cheapie setups. Go the whole route with a professional rental or a KJ with their own equipment. It'll be great fun. And the guests will love it. Get lots of pictures too.
Gym: It's actually pronounced "Croakie," because that's what half the people sound like, especially after they've had a few drinks.

My wife use to be a dj several years ago, weddings receptions, etc.
It was great fun to watch people get up there and sing.
And some of them were really good.
The only problem was that no one wanted to be the first to get up and try singing.
But after the first one or two did get up, then everyone wanted a chance at it.
As for myself, the last time I tried it a few of my friends and I got kinda almost drunk
and gave it a try.
We had enough to drink that we thought we sounded good.
Unfortunatly my wife had a camcorder running at the time.
Needless to say the next morning (after viewing the tape) we all decided not to persue singing as a career.

Those video tapes can't be made to lie much for us. they pretty much tell it as it happened.
I used to video alot of my front room routines, I would tell my wife how incredibly well everyone in the room had responded to the things that I had done and said.
The next morning watching those tapes and taking a headcount, only two or three out of 15 people were actually, physically rolling on the floor, helplessly laughing, not 13 or 14 of them.....but sometimes they did alternate, the floor isn't that wide open with 15 people, 30 legs and 30 feet to trip over and kick you.
Video tapes can be a very usefull and face-saving tool to keep our egos in check and in touch with reality, although with 80 tv channels looking for content, maybe I would be good enough? hahahaah!"My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"

Yeah, I wouldn't want to go on the cheap... seems like you need a broad catalog, good sound and a couple monitors. Plus, I don't want to have to work the darn thing!
What do you think it costs to have them there from say, 9-12 or 1? Ballpark?
I will ask my friend that hires one each year what she pays, maybe I can get a friends rate.

Karaoke, Japanese for tone deaf.
If I ever got drunk enough to do Karaoke I'd pass out fist." There could be no doubt of the design of my tormentors. Oh, most unrelenting! Oh, most demoniac of men! 'Death,' I said, 'any death but that of the pit.'"

I can't think of anything that I would have to be drunk to do or try to do that I wouldn't try to do when I am sober.
Need me to be an idiot, save your money, hold on , here goes......."My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"
