    Hi everyone.....

i got some ideas for next year for decorating at halloween and since we will be opening up the house to people , i would like to add some shadows or silhouette effects to the place ....it is a haunted manor theme , and we are trying to keep this in the victorian era ......so it would ned to be shadows that seem to be dressed in victorian era , or ghosts victoria dressed skeleton looking shadows , any ideas are welcome here....

i am looking for web site or ideas you can share with me on how to make silhouette of people , or silouette portraits to frame , shadows that seem to lurk behind curtains , or going up the stairs (i know martha stewart had good ones for that....i did see some do them with a projector , but would like the how to's on what type of material to use etc.....

    thanks

I've done silhouettes before, I had a ton of bats 'flying' out of the cavernous hole that is the stairway to the bsaement. Looked great actually but there was some trial and error involved. I found that using black-out paper ( found in the gardening section in the summer, used to block out weeds) is the best medium; t's light and inexpensive. I use stencil adhesive to adhere the silhouettes. It works well on any surface and doesn't leave too much of a mess after you take the silhouette off. NB: Spray glue is not the same thing as stencil adhesive. It seeps through the black out paper, doesn't stick quite as well, and leaves some serious residue.
    Something wicked this way comes...

I built one of these 22 years ago in my front yard.
The wind would turn it , making it very thin and almost invisible to most people driving passed my place (I lived on rt.78 then)
It was wrapped with a frosted plastic sheeting so it seemed ghostly when seen from the full-on side veiw too.
Just consider what pipes, gas lines, electrical lines your piece of conduit may be puncturing before you hammer it into your yard.
In Illinois you call J.U.L.I.E. first and they send crews out to spray paint the ground where their lines are first, then if you puncture a line, it's their repair bill not yours.
"Honey, I flicked a butt near your witch silloettte and that 40 fot flame effect is really neat!"
    "What 40 foot flame effect?"
"My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"

LOL Gym that must of been some great flame effect LOL i'll keep that in mind

what i am looking for is silhouettes for inside the house , like a silhouette peeking from beind a curtain , or in a doorway....So if anyone see web site with those for idea please send them my way....

..i was told via pm that to use a projector if i find some victorian cut out that i like or spooky cut outs , or even us dressed as the part for shadow effects too , my husband is a inprinter so he as access to large sheets of papers even decal paper as the print for greyhound buses , or pepsi trucks etc....problem is the decal will tear off my paint on the wall ....

Put your sillouette decal on a big piece of plexiglass. Have the plexiglass angled so it disappears from sight, rather than reflecting and the figure can be placed almost anywhere. Drill some small holes at the top of the plexiglass sheet to put some heavy fishing line through(It's almost invisible) to hang it from something.
If you hang it then it shouldn't break if someone accidently bumps up against it because it can swing free.

    Witch,

Don't forget to checkout clip art.
It's usually done in black, easier for Graphic Artists to use. There could be some really good Christmas clip art that your missing. Could photo copy it to whatever size you need. Black construction paper would also work well as a medium to work with.

"Clip Art" is good for some people for some things but one time an ad in a big city newspaper for Haunted houses had 8 ads all on one page, three or four of those ads all used the SAME clip art of a haunted house!
If I had been one of those haunt owners I would have asked for my ad money back. Confusion in advertising isn't supposed to be done in this area of advertising. Product bragg, that's different, name of your place and being noticed as Not being in another town or address is important, only if you wish to remain in business!
I always draw my own ad art, trying to stand out from the rest, being "important" enough to notice, I guess?
    Sorry for the rant.....sorry......

I think there is some confusion.
The clip art I mentioned would be used as inspiration for the silhouettes. There was nothing about advertising in this design.
