Does anyone work in an environment that is Halloween conducive? By that I mean a workplace where you can either get stuff that can be used in prop making, gather ideas for scenes, or just get moral support from your co-workers?
I work for two oncologists in a cancer center. Plenty of free props and ideas for medical and mad scientist scenes .Some of my best medical scene enhancement stuff has been fished out of the garbage (washed and disinfected of course) but I stay away from the red bags. Lol By now, the nurses know better than to throw anything away without checking with me first!
One of our docs is from Peru. He has a huge glass beaker sitting on his desk. I asked him where he got it and he said someone gave it to him years ago. I asked if I could borrow it for next year and explained it was for a mad scientist scene. He asked what I would do with it. I replied, “Just fill it with some kind of bloody looking liquid and use it for display.” He digested this for a moment and replied, “Ok, but you bring back with no blood in it.” LOL
Anyone else have a Halloween conducive work place?

Yes I do.
Work for a dental lab as a lab tech. When heavy shell blasting gloves gets a hole in the finger, I get them (instead of them going in the trash). Use them in my haunted maze for scaring people, as a prop or assoc. w/costume. Also decorate my work space for Halloween. It's usually just a few props & effects, plus a bowl of treats. They would get disapointed if I didn't do that every year. Besides it helps to promote going to my annual Halloween party & maze.

Guess what everybody?
From the first ten paying customers that I ever saw come through my door, the biggest "automatic" fans have been Doctors, Nurses, Dentists, Chiropracters and Morticians!!
I have the morbid sense of humor being played out here during my shows that must appeal to the medically studious minds?"My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"

I work for a snowplow manufacturer on the night shift. The stuff they throw away is unbelievable. Some of it comes home with me. Wood 2x4s, pallets (various kinds), 1/2 inch threaded rod (used in place of rebar), 2 in diameter steel tubes (good for posts), wire spools, barrels, large wooden boxes, luan, etc. etc.

When it comes to having access to interesting objects that others have devalued, all that I can say is that the alley dumpsters just a few feet from my property line "Have Been VERY GOOD To Me!"(ala Sat. Night Live)
It seems as if most people today have no skill or ambition to ever pull a nail from a board or to saw off the bad end of a board, each of which provides one with wonderfull raw materials for being able to "do" and create something that you want to do , yet might now feel as if you can afford to spend the hundreds of dollars to purchase the items new."My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"
