Mr L and I share a mutal love of horror films so when we were decorating our house we decided to do a different theme in each room with one of them being (of course) a horror room.

Our everyday living room decor is a huge winged demon in the ceiling alcove surrounded by 18" figures of Leatherface, Freddy, Pinhead and Chatterer. On the walls are bloody framed autographed pictures of horror movie classics - Night of the Living Dead, Nightmare on Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hellraiser, etc.

Of course, the coffee table is full of skull candles. Grossferatu sits in a corner, as does a demented clown, and the end tables have bone and alien lamps atop them.

It's an expression of what we enjoy but I think our family was a bit shocked, at first, to see what they thought would be "normal" living room decor! LOL They're used to it now.

I will say that I just could not bear the thought of putting our 6' animated Leatherface (new for us this year) in the storage room with the other halloween props. I love him so!! He's still standing in the foyer, keeping the halloween spirit alive through christmas (and occasionally scaring me when I'm bleary-eyed and needing my morning coffee!)

I'm curious how many of you decorate in a scary/halloween decor or leave halloween props out all year long??

    Me too...Me too..

My movie theater living room is decked out year round. Horror/Scary movie posters cover 3/4 walls- Universal Classic movie monsters (Creature from the Black Lagoon, Dracula, Mummy & King Kong). Two fullsized Haunted Mansion movie posters framed (pre-release covered with faux spider webs) & dvd release poster. Gargoyles & movie monster figures surround the room.

The walls are painted Majestic (a dark blue/ purple combo). I have black curtains on the two door ways & the single window. Glow in the dark stars cover the ceiling. It's very dark during the day with the black curtains closed, even darker at night. Great atmosphere to watch scary movies in!

I met a man who purchased a life-sized Civil War Cannon made out of foam but finished and painted to look very real. It sat at the end of his couch, pointed at the new boyfriend's head , there for the first date with Dad's lovely Daughter.
I had not had my house very long when an elderly man who was sort of a "fruitcake" wanted to see the inside of my house.
We walked a block to my house on that sunny, Sunday , quiet afternoon here in little Mount Carroll, Ill. He said he was familiar with the house(?) I opened the front door(lucky it didn't fall off it's hinges, this house needed ALOT of work when I bought it!)
He stepped just inside the door, took one look at my 9 foot tall skeleton costume I had made as it stood in the southeastern corner of the room (11ft ceiling)
Turning quickly to the sunshine behind him he said, "Sell it! Tear it down! Get out of this house! Tear it down!"
He made pretty fast tracks down the street away from my house.
Much later I realised he might not have known that I was building a "Haunted House" here, he might have seen the boney guy standing in the dim corner and thought it was something only he could see?
"Payback"? He caused many people alot of consternation and difficultys in his life, maybe karma struck back that day?
I sure hadn't planned it this way........Oh Well?

Lauriebeast: Here's some pics (if we did it right!) The pesky x-mas tree is in the way! Can't wait until x-mas is over so we can return to scary!

Haunty: Your home theater sounds wonderful!! I love the glow in the dark ceiling idea! We have an open floor plan so can't close off the room. We do keep it rather dark with heavy fabric shades on the french doors to keep the light out. Add some candles, a scary movie and we're good to go!

Gym: After reading your posts and visiting your website numerous times, I already knew your house was scary from top to bottom all year long! You live the life we'd love to have!

    MrsLeatherface,
Those pictures are fantastic! I love how you all have decorated! I think it's only fitting that your home reflect your tastes, whether that's traditional or like all of us and Halloween year round! Nice to have aboard here...nice to see another Floridian in the mix as well!
I came here to chew bubble gum and kick ass. I'm all out of bubble gum.

    Laurie: "Was that the boogeyman?"
Dr. Loomis: "As a matter of fact...that was."

Yes, I have a year 'round display, too. I also can't put props away for 11 months of the year. So I keep a display of a few props from the Hallowed Haunting Grounds in a spare room...
