Hi Gang and Happy Veterans Day to all!
On my way home from the local Veterans Day parade I stopped at the bread store and was thrilled, the lady behind the counter asked me>>>>>are you the Halloween Lady? Gee I wasn't sure how to answer. She asked if I was the lady on Swicegood Rd. and I was!
We had a nice visit about how they enjoyed what I did at my house and I shared how much fun it is for me too. They loved the pictures we took of them that night.
She had told me how she would love to do something like that but said the kids just ruin everything......I had inquired about what she meant.......and she said that the kids just always say>>>>oh thats nothin big! I totally disagree with that because the kids were great on Halloween night even the oldest of ones. She lives right up the road from me so we would have the same kids TOTing at our houses.
This is where I feel that this group we are discussing about starting in our areas and having chapters would come in handy. With so many Halloween decorations available to us nowadays and all that is on the Net with ideas I would think it would be easy to come up with a game plan, but that is not the case for some folks, they get stuck trying to think about where to begin and how.... and as I said....this comes very natural to us on this board no matter what level of it we are in.
We could help these people with even the smallest suggestions. And it is an honor that these very people come to places like this board for help from all the talent here. I mean I was a little overwhelmed when I saw what was in here but I figured I would lie low and just take it all in. In the process it turned out that you are all such great folks here that I started posting.
I think most of us here understand the process of adding on each year and we understand about being careful not to go in to many different directions at one time due to the time consuming building of all these displays consist of.
I mean I have a true appreciation for those here that have those huge homemade displays I know how long it takes to work on stuff like that, but I know too that when you see these folks displays ......you know you are seeing something that no one else has and that makes all of your creations extra special. I'm just happy to be in your company!

Great post! I agree 100% about the forum.
I am also know around as the Halloween guy.
Just think "humble beginnings", when I look back at what I used to do as to what it is now it's getting pretty insane (and expensive) and really time consuming. But the spectators look forward to it so i keep going further.
I get a ton of inspiration from the other haunters here!

Muffy,
How awesome being known as the "Halloween Lady" in your neighborhood? (That's a complete and total honor in my book and you deserve it, your pictures prove it and then some!)
I'm so happy to have found this forum and I hope that one day, I'll be known as the "Halloween Lady" in my neighborhood. I can say with pride then that I was fortunate enough to have met the great group of folks here who are so willing to share their knowledge and help us new folks out. (And I'll make sure to mention that the true "Halloween Lady" is you Muffy!
)
I came here to chew bubble gum and kick ass. I'm all out of bubble gum.

Dr. Loomis: "As a matter of fact...that was."

Get used to it. You never know when or where you'll be "recognized". Years ago I used to referee High School Basketball Games. I have played Ball all over the World, it was my way of giving back to the Game. Once, handing a ball in to a girl for an in-bounds pass, the girl whispered to me, "Aren't you the Hallowe'en Guy?"

I agree with the person that said they just wanted to lay low and take everything in. that is exactly what I have been doing and suddenly after reading many posts and realizing that you talented people would probably help me rather than laugh at my idiotic questions I registered and began posting. I love it here and have always decorated for halloween but nothing compared to you all. Look out next year tho because I definately have some plans. I just wish I understood all of the pneumatics, animatronics, hacking, servos, relays, etc etc etc. I can read all day but nothing compares to actually having someone show you how to do it so if anyone is in Louisville Ky and would like to start a prop building club or something like that, I would be very interested in learning. sorry this is so long

The area chapters are a great idea. If that happens here, I would really want to join!

Hey Muffy, remember, that title wasn't just deserved, it was earned
!! That's what's great about an on-line community like this, and SinisterSpace - no matter what your skill or desire level, you fit right in and are welcomed.
Maybe putting out flyers, or a free-ad seeking like-minded individuals, to set up a Halloween or Haunted Builders club would be one avenue to try. Think globally, act locally!!Haunt to Live ... Live to Haunt

Having lived in the same little town for most of my life I have been "known" as many things, first off like in the old Simon & Garfunkle song"in my little town I was just my Father's son.."
Of course my Father had this same deal whereas his Father was well known, being in business and sharing the same first name, at least I didn't have that!
From almost my infanthood I was known as "different", later as "artistic", later as "Strange" followed by a slew of terms in my teenage years that were not always very complimentary..But I was not drinking nor doing any drugs, even though this was at that time, a college town (liberal arts) and it was the 1960's.
I just did not wish to share any of the credit for any of my creativity with chemicals. This was the popularly foistered belief propigated by pop culture then, that you HAD to be doing drugs to be creative . No you don't.
Funny thing is I was still looked down upon as a 42 year old adult because of my Haunted House efforts here UNTIL I suddenly was bringing hundreds of people to this little town to go through my haunted house and local businesspeople were extremely surprised or even in awe of this fact. Then overnight (about one night, actually) I was a "hero", a "Genious".
I have been recognised because of the haunted house by store clerks 30 miles away who were staring at the floor as I asked them for a little help, they recognised my voice!? (Actually it is what is left of my voice after too much "Haunted House")
Having been on a popular TV show from Chicago also helps people recognise you. "Wild Chicago" filmed the house many years ago and then they re-played that episode about 35 times in three years ,I was told.
It kept getting replayed because they allowed people to vote on what they wanted to see again, and it was a fun little piece of video!"My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"
