Maybe it's just me, but out of 95 TOTs, I think I only heard 'thank you' two or three times! I give out some nice stuff and so it's a little disappointing. Maybe it's because I had my scary clown costume on.

What about you? Do TOTs at your haunt still have any manners?

I was actually surprised by all of the thank yous. Maybe because I gave goody bags. Even the older kids said thank you and that they loved the house. I was pleasantly surprised by the kids. Had a few parents tell the little ones, but that's them teaching them. Although had a kid maybe 3 and said thank you before the parents had a chance to tell him to.

During the time I was in the vicinity of where the candy was being handed out, I heard "thank you's" about half the time. A lot of parents prompted the kids to say it, which is good, as far as I'm concerned.
What I was more disappointed in was the number of kids who don't bother to say "trick or treat" anymore, as if it's a passing custom. We make them say it before getting candy, and all complied. That's a tradition I won't let go of.

we had a good percentage that said thank you for their candy as well as good comments about our house being decorated. One of the parents even said thank you for decorating for the kids not many people do any more. And as a real shocker if the kids came back to the house with a friend they would not take anymore candy they said they had been here already. This was a pleasant surprise. We would not have known any different with the amount of kids that come thru at one time.

Now that you mention it, very, very few. In fact, DAMM few. And we gave out some down-right righteous gifts too. How's DVD Players sound? Personal CD Players? DVD Movies? The thing is, they KNEW they were about to be chased out by a guy waving a chainsaw - they just didn't know when.

I was giving the TOTs the benefit of doubt and thinking that all the stuff we do was simply overwhelming. But it seemed that most of the kids never uttered a single WORD the entire time. Bizarre!

Wolfman, you gave out DVD players??? Where do you live, man?? I wanna go there!!

I actually had a lot of kids saying "thank you". Even the older teenagers were surprised that after going thru the haunted house, they got candy also. Although I had to beckon some of them to come back to get their candy (they were running to get away from there)! Mwahahahah!!! Only a handful of teens didn't say thank you, but I was expecting it from that group!!
There will come a time when you have a chance to do the right thing.
I love those moments. I like to wave at them as they pass by.

This year just about all the kids said thank you, even the teens. Many didn't say trick or treat at first, but did after I asked "what? I don't even get a trick or treat?" Funny part was a couple of the older kids laughed and said they are so used to people just handing them candy and not talking to them at all that they just don't think to say it every time. Kind of made sense in a sad sort of way.

I think the thank yous come from the fact that I give handfuls of candy instead of just one piece though.

We had a great thing happen at our haunt. All the kids said thank you. Did matter if they were kids or teens. They all said thank you and a lot complimented us on the house being the scariest in the area. We love to hear that!
