First, I was so sorry to log in today and read some of the very sad, disappointing and upsetting stories. I feel upset and angry for those of you who had bad experiences.
Our day was a good one. It started with a nice walk with the puppy, then I got the boys up and got them in their costumes. Zombie and Pirate.
I took my Pirate to the bus and my husband drove the Zombie to school and he stayed for his parade. I was a mom-helper at the kindergarten party; my station was the popcorn-filled plastic glove hands.
I put the finishing touches on the decorations (scary sounds cd, light pumpkins, bubbling cauldron on candy table) and after school, got into my costume (for answering the door). My husband took the puppy and the boys trick or treating.
Trick or treating got off to a slow start, but after about 4:30, the kids came out of no where. I timed it so that I'd make the fog machine work when kids were coming past the house!
We had groups of families pulling a cart/trailer from a tractor mower and another group of families driving around in a golf cart! (we're all on one acre lots - lots of ground to cover...) Many kids and parents commented on the decorations and some people asked where we got them. It was fun saying that we made them and hearing all of the positive feedback!
It was great seeing all of the kids of all ages (toddlers - teenagers) dressed up and having fun! All the kids were polite and dressed up. Some of the teenage girls made very elaborate masks.
The boys had a great time trick or treating and it was fun having a brief chat with several neighbors. It's a real community even here.
We ordered Chinese to finish off the evening while the boys dug into their booty!

Ms. Wicked,
I am glad to read the positive Halloween experience this year. There is an awful lot of bad times last night. That is really too bad and not what Halloween is all about.
We had a great time and had almost 400 TOTs. We also took in a lot of food for the local food shelf. All of this while the temperatures we at 30 degrees. It says a lot for the power of Halloween."Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble. Double, double toil and trouble-- Something wicked this way comes "

Glade to see some one elss had a good halloween. My haunt went very well , except for afew electrical problems. He had about 300 TOTs come through, and a few people actualy drove from far distances to check the house out. We gave out big candy bars this year, but only to the younger kids, the older ones got 1 small candy. We didn't have to many problems with the Highschool kids, cause when they would give us problems my 6'3" 250, all muscle, football player brother would tell them to leave or he would snap thier neck. any way over all it was very good.
