well me and my husband wore very surpised last night of the turn out , less then last year and we made 3 newspapers and one of those newspaper even printed a pic and our adress as well in yesterday's edition again, it was raining too .....even in town people wore saying that the street wore empty , what was up this year ? did we miss something on the news that wore warning people against halloween ???? lol just a tought ...
and geez alot of older kids not tots i mean too old to ask for candy in my opinion.....then we had 2 group of people that recognise eachother on the grounds and hang arond for over an hour one of them had a beer hidden , never has happened to us before , my husband was pissed ,![]()
we at least had 94% good comments that everything was done beautifully even by the older kids and all left donnations , and like every year the same 2 people that says the stuff only speaks in english like we have to tell them every year we dont have this kind stuff made in canada or quebec.....we have to import...geez ......and some that tought they could go in the house visit when it was stated clearly outdoor displays only , and 2 rude kids that i gave candy to on the porch got in my foyer and saw the candy cauldron and said cool candy and took some till i told them hey leave this there you got yours so please be polite and leave for others it isnt a self serve and their mother not saying anything....
![]()
oh well , what the newspaper did was get us traffic all weekend more then usual and thats with the rain and wind gusts , ......
now i am kind of like the others in this forum and not quite looking to make anything next year but my husband said to me you do it for yourself so dont mind those few rude non apreciating , i just am re thinking doing my living room up for the public next year.....![]()
very disapointed

Like you, I too am disappointed. I had less than last year and I live in the southern US with perfect weather.
You talked about TOTs too old to ask for candy... well I get a young mother with baby on her hip with two candy bags... one for the baby and one for her, neither in costume! Along with the usual college kids. At least the college kids were respectful.
I'm going to make more for next year and post signs and hand out flyers to try to increase traffic. I'm kinda afraid to do that though after hearing some of the other sad stories on here.
If next year is not better I'll probably be done too.BOO!

My Dear Witch from Canada,
I was in absolute awe when I 1st looked at your pictures......to be truthful I printed most of them just to enjoy and show to people. I absolutely fell in love with the style of your display. I got inspiration from your pictures and would want to design my display after yours. (I'm definately not a creative builder like most on this board!)
Your talent for putting it together is a special gift. I too wonder sometimes as I spend 5 weeks getting things together if its worth it but it is and if for no one else but us who love what we do and get pure pleasure from just sitting and looking at what we have created.
So I agree wholeheartedly with your Hubby that these things that all of us do, give us all such gratification. I know a few years after selling the Diner...... for various reasons I could not get things up because of the move...etc.. I was so lost the years I did not do it, left a big gap.. SO needless to say....I do get that much out it just for myself.
I feel confident to vouch for most on this board, how much we all get from each others efforts and how wonderful it is to be in the company of friends that share a common interest. Consider us the best of the best.
All the ideas, the creativity of everyone here, the helpfulness that is shared, and most importantly the recognition for our hard labors and also special mention for the sympathy for those that had bad experiences last night and have broken spirits that the rest of us are trying to put back together again.
This is the best place to be for people that share the wonders of Halloween, that go that extra mile to let others enjoy their passion. We are like a group of actors that feed off the response from our audiences, so when the attendance is down, the show still must go on because who knows what the future may bring.
I sat with my family this morning discussing the horible things that happened to some of our friends here on the board last night. I asked my gang....if we put up a huge display and it got tore up by some idiots , or egged, or whatever.......what would be our attitude about pursuing this all? They replied....."We'd make it bigger!" We all agree that you cannot let the ungrateful people get you down.
SO keep your Spirits high there Mz. Witch
SIncerely Mistress Muffy

I was fearful about the turn out, mostly because of the crazy southern Indiana weather. In the course of about 36 hours, it went from beautiful and in the mid 70s to raining and in the 30s. Things worked out, however. I have a haunted house in a three car garage, but tend to go all out. Most of my props are of very good commercial quality. I had about 11 actors and had turned my yard/drive way into a cemetery. We were open on Saturday night for three hours and last night for 2 1/2 hours. Our total attendance was 1004 and we ended up turning people away at closing time. All and all, I was pleased.

thanks Muffy
makes me feel better and your absolutly right....i am more cheer up now
we just need to vent once in awhile ....
muffy too bad we are so far away from eachother i would lease you my witches for next halloween
as i will not use them next year , and my poor crows got their wings reglued enough to retire as well ......so means big spending all trough 2007 for me for new stuff.... i will defenatly think everything better for next year.....and i will defenatly get help from friends too as this year family member wore no help again ......friends and even people we talk to that we know are more help then family......
i see people on this forum got it worse then we did , i am very sadden for them since the first reason we do it all is for us and our passion or love of doing it ......sad that other people will ruin it for others....A Witch from Canada

Witch from Canada, Muffy said it best. I think your display was the coolest I've ever seen, I will remember it when I someday have a house to decorate.
As Jon said he had less of a crowd than last year, maybe there is a reason for it; the weather or something. Don't worry, as long as you made one kids night it was worth it right? Sounds like you did more than that!
Hope everyone stays positive about it.
