Thread: My haunt ends in a jihad

I don't even have words for how upset I am.

My haunt got set up wonderfully this year, several neighbors were really supportive and said nice things. Then at dark it got shaky, with several key scarers backing out at the last minute, but then we started to get in our groove and it was just getting good when a pack of about 20 families without costumes started cycling through our haunt (we make everyone go in small groups) and started physically assaulting us, including several of our little kids who like to pretend to scare but never manage it.

At first it was just their kids, kicking and acting like punks, which was bad enough, but then I scared a few guys really bad who had just said "man, this is so stupid" right in front of me thinking I was a prop, and I got beat over the head repeatedly with a stick by two grown men. I mean like 10 times, after they KNEW I was a real person!

So I ripped off my mask and asked them if I went to their house and hit them on the head and they were like "No" so I was like then why the f^&% did you just come to my house and hit me on the head? I think if I had been a man they would have beat me to death or something, but since I am a 5 foot nothing woman they just walked past me and kicked a kid in the next room. I do think they looked chagrined that a little woman scared the **** out of them to the point they felt the need to beat her on the head like that.

Several of my nieces and nephews mentioned they had gotten hurt too, so I turned off the lights and closed down...it was barely 8 O'clock. When I came out my sis-in-law who was running the entrance was the one to tell me that they were a group of fundamentalist muslim families she knew from school and that they all showed up in a convoy of cars together.

This is my last year haunting, ever.

I can't believe I wasted weeks of my life and money I really didn't have for this to happen. F*^$ the community, they can make their own G-dang memories from now on.

OMG!!!!! That is the sickest most horrible thign ever. What is this world coming too? Another forum member had a gang turf war in his yard. You should have absolutely called the police, you were assaulted and that person needs to go to jail if that is how they behave. And they kicked a CHILD?????? I don't even know what to say other than hearing that makes me nauseous. Regardless of what religion they were..they were behaving like total animals. I hope everyone is physically ok and that all the kids aren't traumatized for life over this. It makes me really sad that you don't want to do this anymore, but I TOTALLY understand it. All the work you did, opening your HOME to the neighborhood, and this is what you get in return. It's a d*mn shame.

i would report it to the police... i dont think you could file charges but i would let the police know their behavior in case there are future problems with them or others have problems with them. Your probably not the only place they hit....

I... jeez... great googlymoogly. I'm so sorry your haunt got targeted by ill-behaved zealots with monster kids. I hope you have video of some of these jerks to give to the police. Assault is assault, regardless of what (IF ANY) point the nutjobs were trying to make.

The only thing I dislike more than zealots spreading their hate in their daily lives is when they purposefully take the hate "to go" and seek out situations in which they can spread it.

It's stories like this that make me shudder when I think of inviting people into my garage/backyard/home/etc.

Just remember, in the world there are good people, and bad people. Though more and more, I'm noticing that anytime you put the word Fundamentalist next to any religion, it usually moves those people into the bad catagory.

If you let them end your days of haunting, you let them win, and give them the idea that it's ok to keep doing that to people. Next year you should go even bigger and better. (And be sure you've got the police on speed-dial in case those ******* asshole rat bastards come back). If you do a big haunt, I guess you're gonna have to treat it like one and have some kind of on-site security.

Even if you just don't do a walk-through, atleast do some static stuff next year. If it's just a pumpkin, it's still something. Don't let this ruin every future year for you, and everyone else.

MeLevolent, I just sat here with my mouth hanging open reading what you wrote....I can't believe it! I'm so sorry for you but I agree wholeheartedly with the others that you cannot let them win. These idiots thrive on this stuff and they are crazy!

Its hard to try and think about doing this again next year, all the work and effort that goes into this. Plus the worries of them returning...its very scary.

But think of the enjoyment that you and your family get out of this, what it means to you. and what it means to the people that come and enjoy what you do. Those who appreciate it. Its very hard after things like this happen to want to do this stuff again but don't give up the great memories you produce to these foolish idiots.

I also agree you should have called the cops, was there a reason you didn't...I'm just curious. Sometimes when things like this go down, we tend to get so excited and upset we don't think straight. These people should have definately been reported for this behavior. But....on the other hand its scary what may happen if they come back after the ordeal. Easy to say ...."You Should have.....but I understand what it feels like when they KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE!

I hope you don't give up...its wonderful what you do!

That is really shocking. I'm sorry that happened to you. I hope everyone is okay.

If your sister knows the families, it's not too late to report them to the police.

If you do decide to do it again next year, please post prominent signs saying "Smile, you are on camera." Ideally, you should actually have the cameras, so you can go to the police if necessary, but the mere threat is often enough to prevent the bad behavior in the first place. Maybe have someone at the front gate take photos as part of gaining entry, and write down license plate numbers while they are in the maze.

You may also want to consider getting a few big friends to act as bouncers. When something bad starts happening, it is helpful to be able to shut it down instantly before anybody gets hurt. Have them escort groups through the maze. If someone starts damaging the props, escort him out. If someone starts damaging the actors, pepper spray the bastard.

I HAD A GREAT NIGHT UNTIL 15 TEENS CAME BY AND STARTED HITTING MY STALKER.They kept coming back and throwing candy and making obscene comments to me and my son.Then they came back surrounded me and tried to knock me over.The costume came off and they ran away.Later I was sitting on a wall near my house in street clothes,A car pulled up and met them as they were coming back.The kids told thier parents I was a rapist and was swearing at them.Well I suprised them a little when I walked out,after hearing this and the 3 parents are gonna read me the riot act.Really ruined my night.I had parents taking pics of kids next to my stalker and the wife yelled at me because she had candy to give out and no one would come near the house.Maybe no more ste-ups.Really tired of ignorant parents.
