Well, I woke up this morning and went outside to find nothing left but cobwebs. Some "ghouls" decided that they would help themselves to my props.

The good news is I have some props left that I was putting the finishing touches on but do I put them out now and risk them being stolen or wait until Halloween night so I can keep an eye on them?

What a shame. I would wait until Halloween to put them out as well.

Awww crap!!! That is just the worst!! My condolences...

Perhaps, just perhaps, you could catch them on video!
There are some (fairly) inexpensive infra-red cameras available that you can just plug into a VCR or DVD recorder...

Put out another few props (I hate that you might lose them) and place the camera so it has a good view of the site (closer to the props, the better, so as to get face shots).

If the little "darlings" come back to take these new props, you will have a nice tape to give to the local authorities.

Out of curiosity - the props that have already been stolen, were they "store bought's" or did you create them your self? If self-made, did you take pictures? Especially progress pics?
Perhaps you could ask some of your neighbors to keep an eye out around town to see if they notice them in other yards...then you could go to the police with your progress pics, and have them investigate (and hopefully arrest) those people with your props.

Good luck on it all in any case!!
Hell is an eternity of getting up at 4am to nothing but decaf coffee...

2009 photos and 2008 photos ...uhmmm...and what I have evolving...

They were store bought. The ones that I’m making haven’t gone out yet.
The good news is I still have a ton of stuff to put out on Halloween night.
I’m a new comer to decorating the outside of the house so my collection isn't big and I havn't spend a lot of money on the props, it’s just the time to put them up. I’m just glad to have a forum to vent to.

I’m not too concerned that I will put up cameras but I will let my neighbors know to keep an eye out. I think it was just a few kids pulling a prank. They didn’t vandalize anything so I’m thankful for that.

    Sorry to hear that.

You are more upbeat than I was when I had my only good home-made prop stolen a few years ago. I still harbor ill feelings about it.

I don't put anything out until Halloween, which is a shame because the neighbors like the display.

That is really too bad. Would it be nice to use the "ghouls" who decided to help themselves to your props in your new yard haunt? As props!

Have you considered a simple fence in front of your props in the future? Sure it only keep the honest people honest but you can also scare it up a little with some cobwebs. The fence is the first thing I put up every year. I tell people it is for safety but really it is for secruity.

Contrary to popular belief, Rottweillers make great family pets. Very gentle, very smart, very clean, nobody but NOBODY gets into the yard! Just a suggestion.

Man, that's horrible - very sorry! Any way you can put up a simple fence around your display? Otherwise maybe get a video camera & make it obvious along with a sign giving notice it's there & that tresspassers/ vandals/thieves will be prosecuted. Even just putting out signs might be a detterant. Good luck!

My heart goes out to you. Let us know what you decide? I'm still a little shy about having our boneyard set up, and the big night is less than a week away!
