I live in Mississippi and this letter to the editor ran in our paper today. The lady who wrote it is convinced that Halloween is "Satan's night". *rolls eyes*

I'm kind of irritated that they even ran the dumb letter. The bible-thumpers in this area already have enough to yap about!

Her letter was pointless; I'm suprised they included it. She changes topics several times! What was it about...Halloween or the war?

My daughter goes to a christian school, and while most of the kids think its cool that we have a haunted house, she gets a few that tell her that the whole family is satan worshipers.

Sheesh, I wonder what made her decide that after 4 decades 'Oh, Halloween is evil!'
I am very sad that people get killed in wars, but I don't think that Halloween is connected.
OK, glad I don't live in Mississippi.

My only neighbor is the pastor of the Congregational Church in town. He comes over every year to see what I've done, and compliments me on it. This year, I mentioned that some people think Halloween is all about worshipping Satan, and a witches' holiday. He said, "Hogwash, Halloween has its roots as a religious holiday. Period. And anyone that thinks it's Satan's night is full of beans."
So much for the misguided soul in that letter. Straight froma pastor of a church.

That fool. Doesn't she realise that Halloween is a harvest festival??
How can Halloween be Satan's night if it is based on a Pagan holliday?? Satan is a Christian idea!

Yikes, animals cut into shapes??! I never heard that one.
I live in El Paso, and every year about this time the news starts running alarmist propaganda about the "dangers" and "safe alternatives" like going to the mall
or "trunk or treating" at the church parking lot.
Last year they were fixated on the idea of home haunts being fronts for kidnapping (
!) with no actual proof or reason to back the idea up. That one bothered me quite a bit, but we still got around 200 people on good old Satan's B-day anyhow. Of course, I had to decide against my original plan to abduct and sell the costumed tots into white slavery since I knew the media was onto me. Instead I just worked my a$$ off and spent hundreds of dollars so those kids could have a fun memory and a candy or two, what a terrible devil-worshipper I am.
This year the news did an interview with several animal shelters in the area about Halloween dangers to pets etc. I was pleased when one lady gave them a withering look when they asked if she suspended adoptions for the month of October to protect the animals from being abused and she said that if people wanted to torture animals they don't need a holiday or an animal shelter to do it. Of course the next shelter they interviewed actually DID close down each October, so I was thrown right back into the dark ages again. Oh well.
I'll bet you ten to one she switched from a more moderate (read:normal) church into a hive of militant fundamentalist baptists. Those are the ones I always end up running into, and they will talk for HOURS about Satan and how he used to control their lives, make them do bad things, leave dirty rings around the tub...etc.Sheesh, I wonder what made her decide that after 4 decades 'Oh, Halloween is evil!'

There was a post last year about the same thing and a poster posted this link:

It's a very interesting article in "Christiananity Today" about how christians should embrace halloween and that the devil hates to be laughed at. I plan on making some copies in case someone tries to tell me my display is devil worship. I plan to give them a copy and tell them to go educate themself.

I'm not advocating Satanism, but she refers to our founding fathers being Christians and what-not, but one of the founding principals of why America is land of the free is because of freedom of religion. If I wanted to be a Satanist, that's my right. As long as I don't harm others. And if I'm influencing people to become satanic because they're entering my yard full of frights on Halloween, then I'll stop the day the Jehovahs stop knocking on people's doors. Of course, I'm not a satanist, just trying to make a point.
As for the war in Iraq, at the risk of triggering a political debate, George W. Bush has clearly illustrated his religious beliefs, so if she wants to point fingers, let it be at his Christian ways rather than Satanists.

bs i mean this quote
first stupid second so funny because only a crazy person would think of that. Didn't Halloween start out by leaving candy out for the evil spirits in Mexico ?evidence was found that something weird was going on in several places in our city — things like animals being cut in shapes, etc.
