Tonite was trick or treat in our town. We did alot of work putting out all the pumpkins and displays, but not alot of kids stopped by. Does it seem like to all of you Halloween isn't what is use to be?? Not alot of kids trick or treat anymore, it was a little disappointing, maybe I just feel let down because it is all over now, but even my teenage boys thought it wasn't as good as it use to be. The weather was perfect here in Iowa, 70 degrees today, so it wasn't the weather stopping everyone, maybe alot of parents just don't have time to take their kids trick or treating anymore. Oh well, Happy Halloween everyone!!
I know what you mean... We went to the store tonight to pick up some "Just-in-case" candy (we never get trick-or-treaters here because of the mountains and lack of lights but we like to have some on hand just in case.) and were assaulted with christmas candy and decorations... I almost screamed. Now, I love Christmas, I love Thanksgiving (large amounts of food and laughs? I'm in!) but I hate how they gloss over Halloween, and alot of times, thanksgiving. So we had to buy regular fun sized candybars, and not the bodyparts and eyeballs that we were hoping for. Curses. It seems like no one has decorated around here, and it's just sad. Where did Halloween go? But yes, please everyone try to have a Happy Halloween! !
I guess i'm lucky in that respect. When i was a kid our neighborhood was always packed on halloween. I haven't lived there for many many years. But my buddy who i've known since i was old enough to talk still does, and thats where we set up our haunt. And amazingly theres still so many kids that believe it or not we give out around 40 bucks worth of bagged candy every year ! But if you saw my recent thread i mentioned it looks like rain, and we may not even be able to set up the haunt this year ! I'm devistated.
Wow! Okay, dazco, how on earth do you get away with only $40 worth of candy? We always go through about $100 when we decide to give candy. That's why we switched to pop, it actually works out cheaper. We go through 9 or 10 cases of pop. Do you severly limit the amount of candy handed out?
Also, this is probably going to sound stupid, but what's a trick-or-treat night? We always only have the kids on Hallowe'en night. Isn't that the way it always works?
I'm in a small town(under 5000) and there is a church nearby that has a live band, moonwalk and other attractions to keep the kids from TOTing. Last year they had between 600-800 kids show up and this year they plan on even more! To top it off the town is having a flashlite egg hunt to keep even more away...GRRRRRRR!
I *THINK* there is a few things going on here in the Golden Triangle but my kids wouldn't hear of it, LOL
we will promptly be out the door with Costumes on, buckets ready, stroller for Gabbie, Flashlights , 6 pak cooler in said stroller for mom & dad ...and vid camera by 5:45-6pm

"Ok, on sleazing extra candy: Tears are key. Tears will normally get you the double-bagger. You can also try the "you missed me" routine, but it's risky. Only go there for chocolate." -- Xander
Churches outnumber gas stations in this town and have quite a bit of political pull. A few years ago when Halloween fell on a Sunday they actually got the the city council to move trick or treat to Saturday. I mean, how dare the "devil's" holiday fall on THEIR sabbath? The TOTs loved it. Most of them went out on both nights and doubled their candy and fun. I considered it a minor victory.
We had about the same amount of Tots show up this year as last year, which was a disappointment considering the weather was AWESOME and it was a Friday. Everyone at our get together felt that Halloween just wasn't the same as it was when we were kids. And I went out on Friday to see where the best selection would be for after Halloween sales, and EVERY store had already gotten rid of most of their Halloween stuff to replace it with Christmas. Now, I love Christmas, but I feel that it is being ruined by making people sick of it before Thanksgiving rolls around. We still had a good time though, and have lots of ideas for next year.
***Trick or treat. Smell my feet. Give me something good to eat.***
This year I went on the edge and did even more of a "darker"side and I really thought with the weather being as great as it was we only got 20-30 ToTers.Kinda disappointing.
