I hope to make one some time. Right now I plan to use monster mud. Haven't worked with it yet, just bought everything at Home Depot last night so I can play with it. Terror Syndicate is very inspirational.

Yea the Terror Syndicate has some great props. As far as the monster mud goes, if you use muslin or something similar you can dip or brush the fabric then fold it or pleat it lengthwise to make bark. It should turn out great and be waterproof too.

They mostly come out at night........Mostly

I love the plywood-chicken wire-MM plan. I made a spooky tree prop last year and just used chicken wire attached to a wooden base, with a wooden frame. Covered it with paper mache'(using a joint compound mixture). Look cool for Halloween night(pic's in my photo album)....but the replay on it SUCK'S! It's in a little heap in a small corner of my patio....TOTALLY messed up! It just went all to pieces. And for all the footin' trouble we went through to make it.....well, I'll be making a much better model next time----Don't 'cha just LOVE trial-an-error? lol

Sorry to hear about your tree Wicked. It was a cool prop.

OK I know it's a lot of work and would take quite a bit more time but wouldn't paper mache be lighter and easier to store? If your talking a large prop that may have to be built in sections then pieced together the lighter each piece is the easier to support. The only difference in construction is using duct tape to cover your wire armature before you add the mache. For the bark you could use the snot rag technique.

To be honest I've never worked with MM. I guess I should try MM on one of the clowns. And to think of it your right about the weight. Even with one layer of duct tape and two layers of mache. Then using the snot rag technique soaks up lot's of 'glue'. There would still be quite a lot of weight to a large prop.
