I'm really happy to be starting themes this year. I always hoped when I really got into decorating I could try a new one each year. This year it is Harry Potter, next year I really want to use those fake boarded windows and was thinking maybe I could go with a classic haunted house/Classic monsters theme. I'm thinking Universal Studios Wolfman, Dracula, Frankenstein etc. I keep reading some great theme ideas on this forum and thought we could start a discussion of ideas anyone has tried, seen, or wants to try.

This is only going to be my second year going all out for Halloween, and although this isn't enough to gauge what I may do in the future, I can honestly say that I don't think that I'll divert from the ole' standard Haunted House theme. I've seen postings about zombie clowns, Harry Potter, etc, but I can't see myself doing any of these...just too different! It may be that it's too soon to entertain anything other than the standard, although a classic monster theme does sound interesting.
I gotta agree with Sprfly, my biggest problem is storage so I want to be able to use everything I have and I try to add one new prop a year. I have been going more scary and it is getting harder NOT to hang up the cutesy things I have but I can't part with them either...lol!
I try to think of theme possibilities that will let me reuse what I have as much as possible. We don't have the budget or storage to be completely unique each year. Last year we sort of had a mini theme going on spiders. My wife was a black widow spider woman covered in webby veils, we had skeletal remains of trick or treaters in a giant web next to her, and we had a motorized spider going up and down. I don't like to buy anything that won't be used a lot in future years. If it won't be reused, as a general rule it has to be fairly cheap and home-made.
Nozoki just mentioned the idea of a scarecrow with a pumpkin head. Last year I toyed with the idea of making an army of pumpkin head people in various stages of coming out of the ground in my graveyard.
Some year I still want to do a Charlie Brown theme. When I was little my neighbors did an excellent Great Pumpkin theme with 2 dimensional painted wood cut out characters. My idea on this would be some year when my yard looks really horrific to add terrified costumed Charlie Brown characters looking around.

How about Charlie Brown meets Jason? You could have Snoopy hung in the gallows while Lucy is now a vampiress trying to suck the blood of the Little Red Haired Girl.Or better yet,Leatherface getting ready to saw Charlie Brown in half with a buzzsaw.Schroder is now the Phantom of The Opera,Pigpen has been transformed into the BogMonster.just for thoughts.
Wolf, I LOVE your "Army of Pumpkin Heads" theme. Thats a great idea--especially the different stages part. I may steal that idea sometime if you don't mind.
And Rod......You're one SICK PUPPY! LOL
