Thread: Haunt Theme based on ABC's The River

I decided to watch tonight's two initial episodes of ABC's The River and have to admit that I found it suspenseful and unsettling. I thought they did an excellent job of creating tension and anticipation of something about to jump out and scare the crap out of you. I have to wonder how many people will take parts of this series and work it into their haunt. At the doll tree when the mother asked what do you want from us, I actually felt a chill run up my body.

If you saw tonight's show and found it haunt theme worthy, I'm curious what elements you thought made the show work towards that end.

This is really an exciting thing.

I thought The River was a pretty good effort for a made for TV serial show. I really liked the subjectivce camera views throughout, gave it a claustrophbic feel, like Blair Witch. A couple of parts got a bit far fetched IMO, but over all pretty decent first showing. I made 15 or 16 dolls last season with the original intention of hanging them on camo netting along the side of our garage which is flanks the sidewalk to our front door. The family thought it would be too creepy and weird. So the other evening my husband and I also watched The River when I saw the dolls I said "See, see what I mean ? It is perfect scene for our front side walk!!" He agreed it looked very scary and we should give it a try, so I am going to add it somewhere this year. I will need more dolls though.....just added another to do to my list.

Yeah, I tried watching this one as well. This series looks like a really long 'Lost Tapes' episode. My husband and I watch those because they're so bad they're funny. I thought The River was a high schooler's attempt at making a "scary" show. Steven Spielberg should be embarrassed he has his name attached to this project in any capacity. I thought the acting was bad except for Bruce Greenwood and the little Mexican girl. (She was pretty good actually.) Overall, this show was a stinker for me. BUT, with that said, I did like the idea of a naturalist/animal guy looking for supernatural stuff out in the world and disappearing. It sounds good on paper, I just think the execution was terrible.
