I'm thinking this may be the year to leave the props and decorations in the attic and just go somewhere fun for a change.
Any of you ever spent Halloween in New Orleans? N.O. is one of my most favorite getaways. I've been many times but never at Halloween. I've always thought it would be a great time to go.
So, what's it like? Any fun Halloween events outside of the usual ghost tours? I know Bourbon Street does it up big but I'm just not interested in watching drunks in costume. Anything else going on H'ween night? A few days before?

Sounds like fun! St. Augustine, FL is lots of fun for the ghost tours and historic district but other than that there's not much to do, good for a weekend trip. If I went to New Orleans I'd want to make it at least a week!

Basically, it's mardi gras but with cooler costumes. If you like crazy crowds, then it's definitely fun. (and the food is to die for!)
There will always be stuff to do there - lots of tours, voodoo museums and stuff. I'm sure their official city website will list more events. If you do go, book early if you want to stay in the French quarter. It fills up FAST (and some hotels are real dives - at least they were when I was there), so do some checking to see on review sites.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

Like mardi gras, huh? Wow. I'm used to going in off times when the crowds are so low I almost feel like I have the FQ all to myself! Not sure if we're up to that kind of crowd situation!
I'm very familiar with FQ hotels and we have our favorites so that won't be an issue. I've done all the haunted/voodoo/vampire tours many times. I was hoping for some Halloween-only activities.
The parade sounds fun though. Guess I'll keep researching. Thanks!

There's a bar there called Ye Olde Original Dungeon. It has a haunted house atmosphere, from what I've heard. I forget what it's called, but there's a haunted house done in a plantation there. I saw it on the Travel Channel.

If ur looking for haunted house attractions there are two big ones. The mortuary which is located down on canal street, could prob take the street car. It's a haunted house around halloween and a truely haunted ghost tour the rest of the year. The other big one is the house of shock on river road prob about a 10$ r so cab ride. Both r very good and have there on websites just Google them.

I'd love to go there any time of the year, but near Halloween would be the bomb (sorry, but I had to
). New Orleans has such a mystique to it that just seems so unlike anywhere else
I have only seen specials and read articles/stories about N'awlens, but the occult atmosphere that is so prevalent really intrigues me. Anyway, enough yammering on my part...
If you manage to visit around that time, Madame Leota, please get pics to share with us broke@$$es who can't afford it

Madam Leota,
I just got back in touch with an old friend from N.O, who moved back there 5 years ago. If you are still interested in N.O. for H, but need more input, I can ask her for her thoughts and some info. Let me know.
