Build it and they will come.. maybe not this year.. but they will come.. I am surprised how much our traffic has increased over the years to the point that this year about 1/3 of the visitors we had were drive ups , park ,get out come through the haunt and then get back in the car and go..

That's so true! It baffles my addled mind when they'll hop out of their cars to visit my place, but totally ignore many of my neighbours! We share a driveway with my neighbour and, even though she'll be on her stoop just itching to give out candy, the kids will visit us and somehow often ignore her!
I try to make a point of telling these kids that they should visit our neichbours, try to spread the "wealth" as it were, and some of them just won't bother. I don't know if they're too excited, too distracted, or just lack a certain "Halloween ethic"! You'd think they'd be clamoring for all the candy they could get their hands on. I know I did!

This is so true. The first Halloween in our house we had a total of 5 TOTs (And I think 3 of them were relatives). But that didn't stop us from decorating each year, and every year the TOT count continues to grow. 2011 we had over 225 TOTs and probably another 100 or so people just stopping by to check out the yard.

I am in the same boat. there are TOT'ers, but they stay across the big street where there is a high density of homes. I keep building the display larger, maybe add a sign at the top of the street "free candy here" with a giant flashing arrow. At least I have a party every year. This time around, I will et the start time after dark

ty hallorenescene for the comment on my house and yard. I`m going to build what I can and make it the best I can and throw up some flyers around the neighborhood and even tell the neighbors next door to spread the word. Then wait and see what happens.

That's how it works. If you saw 1,000 people a night in a haunted house and someone kept their business open at night to profit from your people, the best they could hope for would only maybe be 5% of your people frequenting them, unless their business was haunt-related and/or VERY close by. the State Tourism people came up with the numbers. I think they are right.
I know of a tourist town where the store rents on the main drag are twice the rent of those stores one block either way from that main drag.
What does this mean? People are lazy? People arrive with limited time or money?"My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"
