Hello everyone. we are in the process of renaming our haunt. would like to know if you think the words Satan or devil should not be used? such as Devils gate or Satan's Lair.
Do you think that is a turn off for certain people?
    Thanks Joe

of course you're going to offend some people...but this one doesn't sound like a big deal. Hard to find something that doesn't offend someone these days. I was debating on using Hell's Bells on the lightorama figuring someone would get offended...but that's someone, not everyone, so I'm going with it.

I think your ideas are fine

Of the two, I like "Devil's Gate". You can't please everyone, so don't even worry about offending the sheeple

Definately Devil's Gate or some variation there of. And as for offending someone... It's Halloween if they're offended by a reference to Hell or Satan on a day dedicated to the souls of the departed whom still walk the earth I say grind em up and feed em to the chickens. No seriously Halloween is supposed to be somewhat offensive. But more importantly it's supposed to reflect the afterlife. (if there is such a thing) Why not reference Hell Satan and the evil of the world.........

Why are you afraid of zombies anyway? They only eat brains, so you're safe

The people that are offended by such things, are those who wouldn't be going to to anything but Trick or Trunks, Hayrides, or those horrible church Hell Houses. I have no worries concerning offending those that are just looking for an excuse (and indeed, go out of their way) to be offended.

Although out of the two, I'm siding with Garthgoyle on the "Devil's Gate" suggestion.

Halloween is not supposed to be somewhat offensive....it's supposed to be fun. And as for reflecting the afterlife...???????....I have yet to see pearly gates in a haunt...I guess it wouldn't be a haunt either, it would be a heaven. I'm not saying you should go out of your way not to offend anyone, and in the same light, you shouldn't go out of your way to offend someone.

I missed that earlier. He must've posted at the same time I was. Scatterbrains hit the nail squarely though. Agreed.

I hardly think referencing the Devil or Satan is going out of your way to offend someone. There's far worse things in the Bible they don't have a problem having their small children read. If someone wants to get offended, that's their problem, not your doing.

i stay away from satan and devil things in my haunt. when i first read those 2 words, i thought stay away. but when you add gate or lair, i don't know, they sound allright for a haunt. i guess go for it.

Sheeple! I love it! Sums up what I've been saying since what seems like the dawn of time! Mind if I add it to my lexicon?

As for the the whole naming issue, I must admit that Devil's Gate just seems to have a certain ring to it. As stated by many others you can't worry about not offending everyone since it seems like absolutely everything in this world is offensive to somebody somewhere. In my neighbourhood such words in the name wouldn't cause a ruckus, but in my friend's area there are a number of immediate neighbours who's feathers would be ruffled. You should take into account the "culture" in your area and be mindful of it, but don't let it govern you or your creativity. You know what they say, you can please some of the people some of the time ........
