I had read his blog the other night from a link on Pumpkinrot's site. I had not previously been to John's site and was so saddened to hear about his failing health. I'm definitely keeping him in my thoughts. It's a terrible thing that he's going through and I find it absolutely incredible and very inspiring that he keeps such a positive attitude. Thoughts and prayers going his way!!

Wow what can I say, when it is my time hope I can handle it with such dignity and grace, just remember he is going home.

Hi Everybody,
I had the pleasure of talking to John on the phone this last weekend. I didn't read all the posts to him here verbatim but conveyed to him their tone, their thanks, their very best wishes, their prayers and good thoughts and he asked me to post a response for him. John says he is so incredibly grateful for everyone's kindness and well wishes. He is truly a man at peace with what he has to face. His courage astonishes me and I am always in awe at his desire to set others at ease when he might very well be focused solely on himself. That's so like him in every way. He says he is wrapping up his affairs and hospice care is in place to help him and his family as they face this huge step. I had the wonderful pleasure of knowing John through his website, Season of Shadows, and we talked and emailed often, especially when his health was better. He said his family will keep his website going after he passes and, although it's not Halloween related, I wanted to share his other website with you- it's called Wind Of The Soul http://windofthesoul.com/index.htm and it has a blog, podcasts and all kinds of great content that focuses primarily on spirituality. It's not of a religious nature at all but more like how to find peace within yourself, being aware of and thankful for the good things in your life, creativity, and things like that.
Thank you so much for your posts here, you guys. I think it's so important for John to know what a positive impact he has on people. If I get to talk to him again before he passes and if he has the strength for it and with your kind permission I'd really like to read these posts to him verbatim. He is such a sweet, loving soul and I think hearing all the supportive and wonderful comments from his Halloween family would do his heart good. Take care, everyone, and thank you again for your good thoughts for John.

What a moving post, truly moving. I have followed his blog for several years now and have not had the fortune to check up on it, or hardly any blog, in over a month. It is actually one of the first sites that I bookmarked in my now overflowing "Halloween" folder and I will sorely miss his postings and presence.

I hope with all my heart that he discovers that stream he is looking for. My thoughts are with him and his love ones.

I received an e-mail yesterday updating John's status.

"Hello and I hope your doing great. I just wanted to send a personal email to everyone letting them know what's going on with John at this point.

Hospice has been called in. His nurse is a very gentle and loving soul and is a huge help to John and his parents right now. John is now able to eat only 100 calories a day which consists of 4 bites of baby food and 3 oz of prune juice. He is no longer drinking his cranberry juice. It pains John greatly that he cannot drink water at all. His love for water goes very deep and not able to drink water has been a painful part of this process for John. He wanted me to remind everyone again of the TAP project: http://seasonofshadows.com/donate.htm ; and to please help those in need of water around the world.

John estimates his weight around 95-100 pounds. His organs are starting to shrink, he's having a hard time breathing and his panic attacks have returned. He can still walk a little bit but it's very slow going and he must sit down right away. He's really hanging on until his birthday, March 19 and it's defiantly looking as though John is living his last remaining few weeks on this planet.

Some of his fondest memories in his lifetime are that of his Halloween community in the last 5 years!!! He's adored all of the friends he's made, all of the people he's met and he considers himself a lucky man for having us all in his life. John wouldn't want his life to end any other way. Sadly my next update to everyone will be of his passing. I am in constant tears and can say no more. Please take care of yourself and drink a tall glass of water for John.

Thanks for the update. I have been wondering about him. I was hoping he would get better! I am so glad he has family and love surrounding him.

My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

I just received this e-mail. John, Godspeed, my friend. You'll be sorely missed, but you're in a better place finally. The pain is over.
