It's time I start looking at colleges, and I have no idea where to look. I'm interested in special effects artist, makeup artist, pyrotechnician, or really anything halloween related. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance! -Sam![]()

Well, there's a difference between a college and a technical school that will teach you specific skills like the ones you're describing.
A college or university will give you a broad foundation of knowledge as you fulfill the General University Requirements (GURs) of that institution. You will be required to study many different subjects as you also focus on a major. Having said that, many colleges have theater programs that deal with technical theater as well as the performing side. The University I attended had acting, writing, and technical theater which included lighting, sound, stage and set design, make-up, and costuming. The benefit of graduating from a college is that you can boast to employers that you are a college graduate.
If you want to bypass the Bachelors degree and just learn the stuff you want to learn, then you may want to look into a technical college or institute, such as VanArts or the EI. I have no idea where you are located, but I would suggest you try and figure out which academic route you want to take, and then start searching google.

There are some makeup effects schools in California you can go to. These schools will teach you prosthesis, makeup for runway, movie and theater, creature design and other things related to the area your looking for. I believe Westmore Academy might have some classes of interest for you.
"Come little children, I'll take thee away, into a land of Enchantment. Come little children, the time's come to play, here in my garden of Shadows. Follow sweet children, I'll show thee the way, through all the pain and the sorrows."
~ Edgar Allen Poe
