I have a question for the General Haunt public.. We all here love the Halloween season and understand we can only go so far to not offend and cause problems to people NOT interested in Halloween. But if there was a Pro Haunt going on with the number 666 in the Haunts name, would that be a NO, NO.. would there be church officials coming to close us down, complaints to the city to close us down, etc...? I'd like some opinions/facts from the halloweenforum on what could be the consequences we would face..?

I can't say that I'd have a problem with it. However incorporating 666 into a name and not getting cheezy sounds difficult. I say do it and tell your detracters to grow thicker skin.
Why are you afraid of zombies anyway? They only eat brains, so you're safe

I believe there are ideals which were long ago set into law within the United States that say no church officials can come shut you down for such a display. You have the freedom to do as you wish.
That said, they have the freedom to complain about it. To protest it. To make you feel uncomfortable.
Is that a can of worms you wish to deal with? If so, go for it.
I kinda like the Route 66.....6 idea. Then again, I'm a US history and car buff.

It doesn't bother me in the least. Frankly I think it's rather tame.
Nothing beats a haunted moonlit night on
All Hallows Eve...

I'm not worried about it at all. I agree with Halloween Lady, it is almost an expected Halloween item in my book. I also like the Route 66 idea.

As a pro haunt and as a for-profit haunt you want to attract as many visitors as possible. It's really hard to quantify how many you would retain/loose with the name. I'd err on the side of omitting it.

My guess is that the kind of people offended by a 666 are also the kind who don't go to haunted houses in the first place. If church people protest, all the better. Free advertising: "This is the haunt 'They' don't want you to see!"
I'd be much more concerned about the cheese factor than the offense factor, although I do like the Rte 66... 6 idea.

I agree. It's the same mentality as those who don't want anyone to see a movie or own a certain item just because they have objections. There's no way in heck that they will want to be near it, other than to protest, and that would be good advertising, the exact opposite of what they are intending

Personally, I think that throwing '666' in there, while not a true "don't", is a bit cliche. Along the lines of your aforementioned idea, a uniquely-designed road sign (maybe shaped like a bat or with skulls around it?) with a bloody handprint or two added could be interesting, I feel.

Well said. As long as where you live doesn't attract the really bad crazies (destructive vandalism type of crazies), then go for it. I like the haunted Route 66 idea as well - I envision psycho hitchhikers and escaped convicts - things much scarier to me than zombies or vampires!
